Samsung L77: A slim 7.1MP Digital Camera

Got the chance to check out this new point-and-shot camera by Samsung. The L77 might look slim and simple but it packs some nice features within its class.

At 7.1 megapixel with 7x optical zoom (non-extending), this is the slimmest digital camera Samsung has ever released. Not a big deal but to some, size does matter (I mean, the smaller the better).

However, the small size has its obvious drawback. The battery is also smaller and stores less power. I reckon it can only carry half as much juice compared to competing cameras in the same line.

And while others only have 3x or 4x optical zoom, the Samsung L77 has 7x optical couple with another 5x digital zoom. That’s a total effective zoom of 35x.

ISO ranges from 50 to 1600,an aperture between F3.5 - 5.3, shutter speeds between 1 to 1/250 secs and captures video up to 640 x 480 @ 30fps using QuickTime MPEG-4.

Took some sample photos as shown below:

Had a little trouble using macro as you need to be at least 10cm away from the object you want to take a close up shot. And despite the with ISO range, I find it hard to get a good shots of poorly lit objects. That anti-shake system kept on giving me warnings.

To those who fancy some fun shots, the L77 has some built-in photo-editing features and nifty photo compositions.

P.S.
Thanks to Samsung Phils. for lending me the unit.

Nice. About what you wrote about the short battery life is a big turnoff.
