Samsung leads LCD TV market in the country?

Just got a delivery from Samsung last week which included an invite, a small token, and a market research report. I didn’t get the whole report but some snippets which claims Samsung on the top of the LCD food chain in the country.

Samsung sold about 10.2 million TVs worldwide from October to December 2008. That breaks down to 17.7% market share.

In a comprehensive study in the Philippines by Germany-based GfK Research Group, data gathered from retailers and re-sellers have shown Samsung displacing Sharp, Philips, Panasonic, and Sony as the leader in LCD market.

Samsung sold 68,000 TV units in the Philippines last year. Not a lot but that’s ten thousand more than what Sony sold int he country for the same year.

Believable? Yes.

But what do you think? Has Samsung really displaced Sony in the LCD TV market? This could be due to the price points but in the high-end segment, I don’t think it matters a lot.

If you were to buy an LCD TV, which brand will it be?

well i guess Sony and Samsung are quite close to competition, specially that one of them released a LED series already, correct me if im wrong though. Which leads to the LCD vs LED topic i guess. Just a thought. :)

i have a panasonic and if i had to choose again, i’d still get a panasonic lcd. i also have a samsung and if i compare the two, i’d have to say the panasonic has better picture quality.

Samsung have their no dead pixel warranties
samsung is cheaper better looking and more stylish than the others. Yes you can compare all you want, in the end it wont really matter until we have full HD cable here in the country.

^ it does matter. using a bluray player with the same disc for reference purposes, i prefer the picture quality of the panasonic. of course i can only do so with the specific models i own. tvs are not only used for watching cable, and honestly, i don’t see affordable HD cable happening soon here, at least not in the next 2 years.

Samsung and Sharp would definitely be my top choices if I decide to go LCD. No surprise there.

To be very honest, I’d still go for Sony and the other Japanese brands in spite of their hefty price tags. My after-sales experiences with Samsung were terrible – and that’s saying it very nicely. Ultimong camera pa lang, wala na silang kibo. Paano pa kaya kung TV?
