AOL answers your questions with Yedda

Following the success of Yahoo! Answers in the Q&A market, AOL makes it as a runner up and buys Israeli start-up Yedda.

YeddaAOL playing catch-up? Well, in a space where Google had once treaded and failed, and where Yahoo is succeeding there might still be room for another player. Only recently had professional networking site LinkedIn introduced Answers did people realize how important a Q&A market could be (in terms of gathering quality head count). And it looks like it’s getting hot.

Just over a year old, the Israel-based startup Yedda has already amassed an estimated 800k users after receiving a $2.5 Million venture capital. Details of the acquisition were not shared.

Q&A services like these aren’t just a numbers game. You will also need a good ration between those who asks the answers and those who answers them. The only factor that would separate one service from the rest may be based on how many brilliant people are actively participating in the community.

Speaking of other players, saw this site called Pinoyhenyo.com which follows the Yahoo answers design somewhat… but being local, you can see there are a lot of funny if not bogus questions and answers.

But of course it’s funny seeing some questions in Filipino, or about Philippine pop culture: for example: ‘Bakit ilan sa mga Pinay celebrity nagpapaanak sa Amerika?’

      Haha. Kakaiba.

      Check it out here: http://www.pinoyhenyo.com

@^ Oo nga no! Hindi kaya sila habulin ng Eat Bulaga? Hehe.

I did a little checking sa PinoyHenyo, daming sumasagot when it comes to Tagalog/Filipino vocabulary, language, etc. So it looks legit and it’s actually being populated. If I had this back in high school and college, my Filipino classes wouldn’t have been as hard! >.

It will be very hard to compete with Yahoo Answers, second from them that i can think of would probably be Answers.com (from Gurunet, which i believe is also Israeli based) with it’s Wikianswers. The main advantage and strength of Yahoo is their huge number of members.

i think yahoo answers is already way ahead. The member base of yahoo is huge, unless they (yedda) could design a “sticky” way to get the members active.
