How many SMS greetings did you get this Christmas?

In December 2009, I first noticed that people were sending tweets and FB messages instead of SMS when greeting everyone during the holidays. I also wrote a story on “Telcos lost Millions to Facebook this Christmas“.

That was two years ago, when Facebook and Twitter were just starting to become popular in the Philippines. Today, the Philippines is an FB country and Twitter is closing in next.

Last night, I only got a single (yes, one) SMS greeting on my business line. My personal line was a bit better at 5 text messages. (Finally got a few more on my business line this morning).

On my end, I only sent out 2 SMS greetings. The rest are on Twitter and Facebook.

If you compare that to the hundreds of SMS we used to send and receive years ago, it feels like SMS is no longer the main channel of communication during Christmas.

This is what the telcos are very afraid of and it’s already happening.

So, how many SMS greetings did you get this Christmas?

This is very true! I bet telcos lost millions. I only got 2 msgs ata last Christmas :)

and oh! I remembered the news last year sa TV Patrol yata. Mag post na lang daw sa facebook or mag-tweet instead of sending SMS’ congested daw kasi. Haha

i dn’t think ur audience is reflective of the general PH population. ur audience is highly techy with devices and connections that permit them to use other forms of communications. i’d bet in general SMS was still the top greeting communication platfrom.

Just got 1 text message and I also sent 1 to answer that lone text. Most of my friends greeted me thru fb and tweeter.

got 10 msgs and the others were from fb and twittter hehe but still I managed to text my friends than to post on their wall (because mas sentimental ang dating)… The only problem that I`m facing yesterday was I can`t subscribe to their unli offers :S especially TM

I received 3…I replied to 1 :) Sent out 1 SMS…

But I notice, it’s still hard to register in Globe’s ITXT 50 at exactly 12AM of Christmas Eve.

when i was in college (circa 97-01) i get hundreds of sms for christmas

dwindled to fifties and fortys

this past two years…10 hahaha…blame it on social networking…mas mura nga naman magpost pangkalahatan pa!

I got alot of BBM greetings, around 30. and only 5 sms. All others came from Facebook and Twitter.

I think I only received about 7 SMS greetings. Sent out roughly 30 SMS greetings. Mas marami pa nga ata from social networking sites like FB & Twitter. I think more people rely on social networking sites kasi mas madami mababati at mas tipid pa :)

Sent out 127 personal Merry Christmas messages
More than half were reciprocated
80% were liked.
Not too bad :)
