Yahoo! hiring Online Community Manager for the Philippines

Jozzua points to a JobStreet job listing by Yahoo! Singapore for an Online Community Manager for the Philippines.

This position is for people who have experience with Internet-based community services and applications as such as social networking, blog communities, forums, message boards and online gaming and services.

Of course, you will need some 2-5 years of product management or community administration experience as well as consumer marketing and competitive analysis. The job involves online and offline community management.

You will engage our community face-to-face via meet-ups, road shows, workshops, seminars and other public events. You will be the face of Yahoo! and an evangelist of our products, teaching users how to maximize their online experience with our products.

Looks like a fun job to me. Yahoo! has strong presence in the Philippines with Yahoo! Groups, Yahoo! Answers, Yahoo! Mail and Flickr. I’m sure these services have a large Filipino following to prompt Yahoo! to get someone from the Philippines to manage their brand and services locally.

Mike is curious why the job is based in Singapore and not the Philippines. Obviously, Yahoo! does not have an office here in the Philippines. But so does Google and Ask. Microsoft has an office but it’s primarily for their other divisions. My guess is that MSN Philippines is also outsourced from Singapore.

On the other hand, Google also flies its FTEs to their Singapore office. A local corporate AdWords client once told me they have to call all the way to Singapore every time they need help with their ad campaigns.

Even if Google doesn’t have an office here, they have Aileen here. Local presence makes a world of difference when you’re in charge of a whole country.

I think the Flickr community is their most passionate community. I hope Y! could bring Caterina over (when her baby is big enough of course.)

Then of course, most people in the Philippines still use Y!M. That should count for something.
