We’ve just wrapped up the day for the Singapore leg of Nokia: Go Play! A lot of announcements were made and too many new mobile units to check out.
Will try to cover everything I’ve got so far.
Nokia has announced an expansion of their core business from merely hardware to services and application. This includes a going seriously into gaming with the N-Gage and services like Nokia Music and Nokia Maps.
Nokia is also moving to a unified user interface with the Nokia Menu 1.0. Looks like Vista Aero, the card wheel navigation really reminds us of the iPhone. There’s no touch-screen yet, but there’ll be touch navigation.
Some interesting figures were also shared — total of 900 Million units sold worldwide, 700 million of them are internet devices, 200 million are music players and 170 million are camera devices. That makes Nokia the largest digital music player and digital camera manufacturer in the world. Their entry into the digital music distribution is motivated by an estimated 5.5 Billion Euros in ringtone sales worldwide.
They’re also launching OVI (Finnish word for door) as a unified platform to release all these services and applications.
More detailed posts coming up.
