Does your company encourage Social Networking?

A story from the Business Week reveals that IBM has been encouraging social networking among its employees with in-house versions of Web 2.0 hits such as Facebook and Twitter. A lot of companies are into corporate blogging already but social networking is another story.

Facebook, Friendster, LinkedIn, Twitter — Does your company encourage its employees to use Social Networking sites?

It may be a stretch but yesterday, I saw Petron XCS added me on MyBlogLog. I checked them out and looks like they’re also on Pownce, FriendFeed, BlogCatalog, Twitter and Delicious.

It’s a step forward but other companies are more careful. It might be good for Public Relations but might hit them in the productivity department. Transparency is also a double-edged sword — do you really want your boss being able to read your Twitter updates?

If your company allows you to use social networking site, which one would you think it would be? My bet is on LinkedIn — not to time consuming but very informative.

As someone who work for the gaming industry, yes. SNS are (highly) encourage in gaming companies. And for us, Community Managers (regardless of which industry), Social Networks and Social Media are a must.

We have to keep ourselves updated and keep the company updated and keep the customers updated and keep discussions flowing.

If your still to Friendster and Twitter you are already left far behind. Its like Knowing how to use a PC for the first time. hehehehe

our company launched an internal social site and integrated the internal beta blog site. they are trying to promote networking among the different groups. oh, they are terming it as “collaboration”.

i keep one mini-blog there for the tech tips i usually hand out to project members (and since i transferred project, its a hassle to send everything again). too bad they killed off the wiki site since that would be better suited for my purposes.

but i am not too hopeful on its success since i firmly believe that users are too lazy to login just to access a site. there should always be a way to access it even if just to read.

The company used to allow social networking. They even went as far as providing some sort of a local forum. Unfortunately, due to misuse and under productivity, it was shut down. Now, all social networking sites are not allowed. But they did provide an Internet cafe that we can all freely use so it’s all good.
