First time I got an email about this, I thought it was the IPTV service (Joost). Jooce is different — it’s basically an online desktop, communication and storage service.
Unlike the previous ones (G.ho.st Virtual Computer or the eyeOS), Jooce is just a simple virtual desktop that runs on Flash technology.
Once you’ve signed up for an account, you can access your IMs (YM, MSN, ICQ), upload images, audio files and videos to access and play later (on a different PC) and share them to others. Methinks Jooce would be used by people to access their IM clients where they are normally blocked/banned as well as store their Friendster photos and favorite mp3 music.
I tried uploading an mp3 file and it was fairly quick (about 60 seconds). However, listening to the music is a pain since it’s being streamed and the music gets cut off every 5 or so seconds. I’m not sure how much storage is available per user but I guess since their added this as a major feature, there’ll be tons of space for movie clips, photos and music files to go around.
Btw, you can customize the language too and Tagalog is available. One of the people behind Jooce is also a Filipina living in Paris.
