Anonymous comments now a crime in the US

Listen to article

U.S. President Bush has signed a new law dubbed Violence Against Women and Department of Justice Reauthorization Act.

This new law now adds a clause that makes it a federal offense to post annoying and anonymous comments on websites, blogs, or e-mails. Thus, if you want to annyo someone by posting comments or sending stalker emails, you will have to identify yourselves first.

From the Buzzmachine, via Steve Rubel.

Personally, I find this new law more amusing rather than ground-breaking. :D

I suppose that they could always put out an arrest warrant for an individual named “Anonymous”. :)

Amusing, indeed. How, pray tell, can they charge a malicious anonymous commenter posting from an internet cafe, for instance?
