GigaOm ran a quick report on the top tech companies is the US based on the average salaries they gave their engineers/developers and Google came out on top. I wonder which tech companies in the Philippines would be on the top 10 if we had the same salary information.
Based on the numerous feedback I get from regular folks in the IT circle, here are my top guesses:
- A lot of old classmates/schoolmates I heard that were employed to HP fresh from college says they have great salary packages. One fresh grad even got a car loan on his first year.
- While very few developers could get into Oracle Philippines because of the vertical industry they are in, people say they have very nice compensation package to retain their top employees.
- Canon Philippines has a ton of engineers and developers here in Manila working some stuff related to cameras, printers and the lot. While the pay is not really very high, developers get a chance to go on special projects in Japan ranging from several months to a couple of years. That’s the time when get the “pay bonus”.
- IBM Philippines was once considered as the top company to work for and has been competitive salaries and a very mobile workplace environment.
- Very little is known about Lakeside Technologies but when they put out an ad before looking for web developers, the starting salaries they were offering were very much higher than industry figures. I also had several former officemates and friends who used to work there and they confirmed the handsome pay. However, one commented that is “if you still want to have a personal life“. So okay, they pay you good and work you real hard.
- Trend Micro, Inc. has a number of top notch antivirus engineers working at their offices in Libis. An old classmate tells me the pay is good but the hours are really bad.
- HeadStrong Philippines. I used to work there before for several months so I have a fair idea of their compensation structure. However, friends that have recently worked there tells me the pay is good and the benefits are great (though not as great as it was 8 years ago). They have a fleet of private cars which will bring employees home if you work overtime (past 10PM).
- Novare Technologies. I know a number of top notch engineers/developers (geeks) are working there so the pay must be really good.
- Smart Communications has been very popular among employees for their extended month bonus. Last December 2006, employees were given up to 21-month bonus. Standard is only 13 months. That’s 8 months more.
Yahoo has just formally opened their office in the Philippines and since they are on GigaOm’s Top 10, they might also be the same here.
There are several other smaller companies that have very attractive compensation packages but I thought they might not be able to scale that once they grow much bigger. If you have some idea which tech companies I should include here, please do leave a comment. The ones I have here aren’t based on hard data so I might have listed some of them wrong too (which brings me, we should do an IT salary survey of sorts here).

@you-knew-it: Oo nga you are right, ang hirap din kasi sobrang sinusulit din ang pay. Actually ang base ko is 155K, the rest are bonuses pero pasok din sa tax. Oo nasa Dev din ako ayaw ko magsabi ng actual technology na gamit ko siguradong makikilala na ako ha ha ha. Pero to give you an idea ung mga kasama ko na using Java ay sumasahod din ng almost same … ranging 130 to 170K. Pero nag paplan na ding mag alisan parang sinilaw lang sa pera sa simula pero what I heard eh pumapangit na ang diskarte ng management pinasok na ng mga Pinoy na management hustlers at tinitipid na at hinahustler na ang kapwa pinoy para sumikat sa US HQ. Buti na lang nakalayas na ako, mas maliit sweldo ko ngayon pero nasa 6 digs pa din pero mas happy ako at dito pwede na magkasakit at hindi na dog eat dog.
@Barat-hrum: Yeah, the good thing is nagkalabasan ng actual figures dito at wala ng pakonyo konyo pa. Now we know kung magkano talaga ang bigayan sa Market. The good thing is, now we know na marami ding nagbibigay ng malaking sweldo at nagiging competetive na dina ng sweldo against Singapore kung maganda na ang exposure mo. Hindi ka na kailangan mag abroad, I know some friends nasa singapore na eh kinuha pa pabalik ng Pinas tinatapatan ang sweldo nyo, flex ung gamit nya yata prang action scripting …

VB6 + SQL Server 2005 + reporting services lang kc gamit ko, alam ko rin panu po mag COLDFUSION 8 with IIS, tpos nkapag teach na po ako d2 sa Cotabato STI for 1 year, and naging freelance sys devloper dn po ako, P.O.S with Inventory and sales monitoring po ung mostly gnawa ko d2 sa mga mid scale business establishments sa amin.. pure SQL coding dn po gamit ko mga sir,..
Pinipilit ko rin po mag aral ng ASP.net po kc un ata in demand po now..
Gus2 ko po sna mkapasok sa ACCENTURE, need po kya nila 2lad skn, kc po tngn ko po obsolete na po mga language na alam ko..tpos wla rin po ako alam sa mga SAP na sinabi ng friend ko na need daw nila.. :-(

wheew! kaka inspire naman sahod ng karamihan dito. ako, I have 2 years 7 months total software engineering experience, mostly on hardcore c++(MFC,STL,COM,CLR), kaka hire lang sa akin ng ACN for seibel team, 22k lang offer sa akin.
May tanong ako mga bossing, gano po kaya ka marketable ang seibel 2 years from now? sa mga ads kasi mukhang iilan lang ang gumagamit, parang SAP lahat ang ginagamit na CRM ng karamihan.

Sorry for my late reply. Local job lang po ito sa may Makati, Nagresign kasi ako before at pinigilan. However, I don’t advise people to work with my company, puros Indiano ang kasama ko, at hatawan ng hatawan kung baga ‘dog eat dog’ eto ung tipong pera pera lang pero di ka masaya ipon ka lang pag nasuka ka na e layas ka na baka maunahan ka pa at palayasin ka din, kasi di ka pwedeng pumikit at magkasakit, I am planning to leave this Indian Company and I already got an offer mas mababa siya pero tingin ko mas okey ang magiging work ko. Galing din ako ng Accenture 2004-2006.
@dan, pasahan mo lang yong interview, be confident enough during sa interview, ipakita mo na willing ka to learn and to give service too for the benifits of both you and the company. Hope, alam mo na kung anong interview yon ngaun thursday at least makapag prepare ka, it can be either technical or HR interview. You can ask kung ano yong interview mo sa kung sino yong tumawag sau informing your interview schedule. I may have some tips be given to you when the job offer comes before you sign-it-in.
hi guys help me up, I’m working with a permanent status and a company(RCG) offers me to have 40-50k contractual for 6 months… should I take the offer?

madami d2 they will tell that my salary is this and that. pero pag tinanong mo further di naman nasagot. Sa mga posters na ganun, make sure naman na totoo nilalagay nyo kc madami gumagamit nitong site na ito as reference. Wag po tayong mag post ng misleading na mga details… Thanks
