From as far back as last year, I only know of two Pinoys who are hard core Ruby on Rails developers. That number has not increased by a single soul up to this day. Here’s an email I got from last night for PTB:
I like the blog! Never realized there was a Filipino equivalent to TechCrunch here.
So I’m here in Manila working at ABS-CBN for ten weeks and was looking to hire some Ruby on Rails programmers for a project I have going back in the States. Do you know where I could find a group of fresh web developers around Manila that specialize in Ruby and Ajax especially. We use these technologies: AJAX, CSS, DHTML, Javascript, RubyOnRails, MySQL, Prototype, Scriptilicious.
If you haven’t heard of a couple of them, that’s ok. We really just needs some junior programmers to provide support for my senior programmer back home. Got any resources or friends that might help?

Will the RoR developers, please stand up?
What could be the reason there aren’t many, compared to maybe Java, ASP.NET or PHP? Is platform too hard to learn with self-study? Computer schools like AMA or Informatics do not offer them? Not much interest for, yet, another language? Not many projects requiring the platform?
If you or anyone you know wants to take up this gig, I’d be glad to hook you up with the guy.

Man, just finished creating a private intranet on RoR for an organization (foreign). Got me occupied for more than 6 months. It’s a relatively complicated project which includes a wiki, calendar, blog, file-management, forum, photo gallery, and a bunch of other stuff. The thing I like about Rails is that I probably won’t be able to finish the project on time if I used a language like PHP, which I have much more experience. RoR lets you focus on the logic of the code instead of being too concerned on CRUD operations, for example. Once you get a hold on the fundamentals of RoR, you’ll zip through a project in record time. Some say that Ruby is one of the most beautiful languages to learn. I sincerely hope that more Filipino programmers would give Rails a try. They won’t be disappointed.
Perhaps it’s the scarcity of resources or references, i guess..
PHP dev here. I just tried RoR a few weeks ago and it completely brings a lot of versatility (whenever web devs talk about the time constraints of projects).
Its really preference. The educational system would take decades for a rework and I agree with UP’s initiative. Given the number of fresh developers in the country, they really need to get hold of some stuff they could use in the real world.
Do something that scares you everyday. And if you are scared of trying RoR, then bite it! At least you had a test of what its like?
Im also open for any collaboration with other Pinoy RoR devs. I just started out and really want to make use of my self studies on this thing.
Just googling for some fellow Ruby Rockstars
and I came to this blog. Btw I am from Cebu, been working as a fulltime RoR devs for almost a year na. In fact marami RoR devs dito sa Cebu especially sa office namin
Hi Mam!

I was glad to know as you mentioned that there’s a community of RoR developer in Cebu. Would it be possible if i could get your and their contact numbers and email address? So, i could further discuss with you and the group other matters involved in the project. Hope to hear from you Ma’am and Should you have further queries or you wish to progress matters and proceed to the next stage. Please do not hesitate to call me at Telephone Nos. (02) 720-5937,720-5911 and TeleFax (02) 720-5936 or email me at anna@webspace.ph. God bless you EXTRAVAGANTLY!
It’s a bit sad there is a slower adoption of ROR. Must be the cost of deploying it (not very popular on shared hosting) or PHP is just too popular?
ROR is elegant to use and I like it’s implementation of page-composite pattern.
I recently deployed my personal website.

The content will eventually change as I meant it for business but for now being a beginner on hands-on deployment (veteran in writing java-enterprise sites but never had the chance to write one for myself), it’s a good thing to take off.
Im also looking for RnR developers. Possible training in the US. Please email me at kristine.lizares@gmail.com
We have urgent requirement for an RoR programmer. Temp contract, 3 to 4 months. Depending on performance, will probably make permanent. Requirement is at least two years hands-on experience in RoR. Location of work is either SG or PH. Let me know if anybody interested.
tks!

IT schools should not be the one to blame for the lack of Ruby on Rails developers. What happens after you finish school is your own call. If you want to acquire a certain skill, assert yourself and look for resources.
I’m a PHP developer but I recently tried using RoR. It’s completely different from what I’m used to, but it definitely worth looking at.
This guy who created the Linux distribution for AMA and contributed many open source applications is a hard-core RoR master.
Alysha…
once again you outdid myself…
Lyle…
this is why i always pick my nose….

There is slow take on ROR but it will grow you see, the reason for the slow take is that there is still a huge need for php developers plus most hosting sites offer php over ROR.
Hi guys,
do you know anyone who might be interested to explore a career opportunity with Ruby on Rails?
Please let me know.
thanks
im interested own ur post…
fantastic, this trail is almost 3 years old!
just getting my feet wet on web frameworks, and RoR is one that I’m checking out for new projects in the company I work for.
still i’m full of confusion of the choices – java/spring? php/cake, etc? web2py? django?
@ Jane_exeqserve, are you gonna offer a training for RoR? I have always wanted to learn RoR and I would love to explore a career opportunity with RoR.
hi aubrey same hir im interested.. if u got one let me know thanx..
from php,asp.net mvc I’m know rubyonrail programmer.. Programming makes fun and is very nice not to code so much code.
Very good AJAX integration. Unit, functional testing, integration testing integrated (and very easy/fast to use). I think the complete framework is focused on agile development.
you can do guys self study, there’s a lot tutorial here in internet.. .
Okay, serious answer: I don’t know about the other IT schools out there but BS Computer Science in UP Diliman isn’t programming language dependent, though we were thoroughly immersed in Java during our batch. The whole BS CS curriculum, in fact, was not meant for just programming stuff. But anyway. That’s probably the reason why Sir Rom Feria is pushing for a Software Engineering course. That way it’s less theoretical.
Another RoR developer standing up.
We are hiring freelance ROR experts. Interested programmers please feel free to contact.
