The Singapore Zoo

Someone asked me why I’d always want to go to the zoo whenever I visit a country. Aside from testing my photography skills (or the lack thereof) for wild animal shoots, I wittingly replied “Show me your country’s best zoo and I will tell you how well-fed your people are“. Just look at how the Manila zoo tigers are so skinny.

Here are some of the shots I got using my Canon Rebel XT with the Sigma 70-300mm APO DG-Macro. The animals are between 10 to 20 meters away so a telephoto lens is a must here.

The Singapore Zoo is indeed one of the biggest and most beautiful zoo in the world. The shot of the flowers and the lake (Singapore’s water reservoir) was taken using the Canon 10-22mm.

The zoo is about 15 minutes by taxi from the city center (we stayed at the Geylang area) and costs about SG$15. Entrance fee is $15 with optional $5 for a ride-all-you-can tram.

Jaime is in the house!

Yup, we just got a pet puppy. And his name is Jaime.

Jaime

Thanks to newly weds Gail & Marc for the wonderful gift. Promise, once my lost luggage from Lahore arrives, you’ll be the first one to get that wedding gift I bought from Pakistan. :)

Jaime is a boy (mixed breed) and I named him after that Brit chef Jaime Oliver from the Travel & Living Channel.

The Cartimar Encounter

I visited Cartimar yesterday afternoon to look out for more fishes to add to my aquarium or maybe a couple indoor plants as well. I ended up checking the colorfull parrots, rabbits and puppies in the pet section of the shopping center.

I got a pair each of the yellow parrots and the blue-colored ones as well. The old man who sold them to me and mentioned their species names but I fail to remember any of them though I can only recall that the yellow is a Japanese breed and the blue ones are Australian.

Took a dozen more pictures while they prepared the cage and other stuff for me. Above is a really cute white puppy (not sure what its breed though) who kept on staring at me while I take pictures of him. I sure would like to take him home as well but I’m afraid I can’t take care of him all the time if I do.
