LG & Nokia Sale: The Aftermath

By this time, both the LG Optimus One and the Nokia C6 sale are both over and we’ve got multiple reports from various locations about how it went down. Estimates put hundreds to thousands of people lined up for both sale.

Our ground correspondents tell us there were a lot of people who were in the malls even before the gates were opened. Here’s a photo of the line in there today.

People were running from floor to floor just to line up for each of the sale. As expected, the events were disorganized and for the lack of a better term, chaotic. At the end of the sale, people were booing and shouting to boycott LG.

Unfortunately, only an estimated 20 to 30 people were able to buy the Optimus One per location in the one-hour window. We’re still getting numbers for the Nokia C6 but I imagine it will be like double that number for the 2-hour period.

Share us your experience below if you were there today.

Sorry, I already posted my experience dun sa Sale Vote (bago lang kasi to >_<). Anyhow, repost na lang:

SALE REPORT: My friend and I arrived sa Megamall at around 11am (almost 12) at nagulat kami na yung pila is stemming from the 4th floor all the way to the 1st. That’s for both LG and Nokia.

Right there and then, we knew it was hopeless (for us at the very least).

I’m guessing that things ended up badly there. Before we ended our shopping spree (yeah, namili na lang kami ng mga “kailangan” namin), 30 minutes before 3pm, we decided to check how things were working out. Tapos nakita namin that there were still lines hanggang sa baba. Unless of course if they decided to extend the sale. Pero we wouldn’t know anything about that kasi nga umalis na kami.

Oh well, ganun talaga. It’s really not intended for everyone. I ended up buying a sturdy bag instead (and I’m loving it. Hehe).

Anyhow, congrats sa mga nakabili. For the rest, I’m sure this is not the end. May susunod pa yan.

Goodness, I arrived there at around 10:20 and the line was already long. I told myself it was not worth it to wait. My friend went there earlier, as in opening. He bought one at full price instead of lining up for one. The 20-30 people who got an Optimus One are lucky! Haha.

I was there 10:15 a.m. and the line was already long WOW! both in Nokia and L.G. (I was there to get a copy of #black ops. @Itech.)

ugh.. i got there as early as 10am and still wasn’t able to get the lg phone. additionally the event was totally disorganized and chaotic, and some of the people that lined up to the 5th floor cheated and jumped in line (not that it helped them if only 20-30 people got the promo) >:-(

i still want the phone though. the specs are great for an entry level android phone but i will probably wait until after christmas or next year when the price drops more.. or if there is another sale coming up (very unlikely though).

lets officially boycott all LG products, kick them out of the Philippines, we don’t need these @!#$%^&*(()company that fools and take advantage of consumers for publicity,

think of what they did, do you expect a good after sale, support & customer service from them, sa SALE & PROMO palang they try to fool, trick you, what more when you need them for support & service.

  17. ems says:

  18. no new phone says:

actually now that i think about it this may have been a good thing that i didn’t get the phone. a lot of phones look good spec-wise but fall short on actual performance. i may have saved myself some money.

i think i will just wait until sir abe does a proper review of the phone(s) first before deciding what android i will be buying.

this whole experience still leaves a bad taste on my mouth for LG and Nokia (the company/pr dept) though. someone should have put more thought on the promo and its organization.

I was at SM North here’s my blow by blow account
9:30am arrived at SM North Annex, guard told people to line up. This is on the ground floor entrance
10:05am 4th floor nakapila malapit sa LG Store near the escalator. Dito pa lamang naririnig ko na from the chatter ng mga nakapila na di naadvise ng LG ang guards, no coordination, so nagkaroon ng dalawang pila.

10:45am Someone had a brilliant idea to “fix” the line. Once there was movement, people from our line and the other line started a mad dash. Where there was a line became a lump of people. I and most of the people in the line was shocked with this turn of events. I counted like i was the 35th person in line and then i was not in a matter of seconds.

10:50 Approached one of the guards and asked who was his commanding officer. I gave him a piece of my mind and told him this was not how to handle crowd control. Pasalamat kayo walang nasakatan, otherwise kayo ang unang masisisi since mall security and crowd control is your job. You also not move people with out the proper barricades or even ropes to organize the people. Also you should have identified which ones were part of the line and cleared the area before starting to move people and this should be in a coordinated effort.

11:00am Watched the sea of people bite to and claw their way thru the sea of people to come first in line. Guards started segragating the lump into 4 small lumps. After this I shook my head in disbelief and just went home. Waiting for a better organized promo from the other manufacturers like Samsung, HTC, Sony Ericson and probably Cherry. For sure they would have learned from the what history will now call the LG 50% Optimus One Sale Fiasco.

There were a lot of things that aggravated the situation from the people trying to get the phone whom do not want to in line, to mall security that should have markers already upon opening the mall where the people should line up, most imporatantly the organizer, whom did not organize anything, LG.

A lot of people, including me is pissed at LG. Looks like their promo backfired rather than help their image.

The event was an EPIC FAIL.

Ang haba ng pila sa Megall, I came there roughly 11am.

While on the other side of the store, may isang guy na may DSLR at kuha lang ng kuha ng pictures.

Haha.]

  24. Abe, you forgot to mention that in Megamall there were already people in the line even before the Mall officially opened.

The guards themselves said they’re from Fitness First and employees from their other tenants.

    EPIC FAIL.

People are shouting in Megamall LG event “Boycott LG” and “LG means ‘Lg G@g0′”. Other people were also hitting on Google Android. That’s the sad reality, Android’s image was also hurt because of LG’s epic failure.

Oh btw, I just remembered, other people read LG’s super sale in tabloids and heard it in radios. So why? Why do that when the sale is only 1 hour; [2] their stores can only accomodate a limited number of people; and [3] they will only come out with a limited number of units?

Contrary to your previous post about what LG said that they did not impose any limit to the units, the people from LG Megamall said it themselves = 50. And people are aware themselves that there will be only 50.

No one’s leaving because they want to fight for it vs. the cheaters.

There are so many stories, may nag-away pa nga because an LG employee wants some group of guys to fill-up some paper but the other people there are united in telling that LG employee that those group of guys were never there before. And the LG employee still insisted that these mysterious guys to sign-up.

So what was that all about? Kamag anak? Kaibigan? Favoritism?

I pity those na nadapa, nauntog, nalalag sa escalator nung nagbukas ang mall _officially_, only to find out mahaba na pila sa LG Megamall.
