LG & Nokia Sale: The Aftermath

By this time, both the LG Optimus One and the Nokia C6 sale are both over and we’ve got multiple reports from various locations about how it went down. Estimates put hundreds to thousands of people lined up for both sale.

Our ground correspondents tell us there were a lot of people who were in the malls even before the gates were opened. Here’s a photo of the line in there today.

People were running from floor to floor just to line up for each of the sale. As expected, the events were disorganized and for the lack of a better term, chaotic. At the end of the sale, people were booing and shouting to boycott LG.

Unfortunately, only an estimated 20 to 30 people were able to buy the Optimus One per location in the one-hour window. We’re still getting numbers for the Nokia C6 but I imagine it will be like double that number for the 2-hour period.

Share us your experience below if you were there today.

its a fail. both nokia and lg. Sana ngbigay na lang sila ng discount price sa lahat ng stores. Grabe ang agawan sa pila. Di ko nga alam kung ano ang pila. Kumain na lang kami sa foodcourt ng megamall. Publicity lang ang lahat. Dont buy lg products until prices are dropped.

  2. LG is Great! Congrats LG! says:

@mylifesgoodph, it rubs salt to our wounds to say that the event was a success.

thousands of people lined up, tired and hungry, someone even died and few more injured, only because you keep telling them that a lot of phone would be given. when it turned out your process that day maliciously made it more difficult to sell more?

that is cruel and disgusting! plainly inhumane.

and yet you’re still unapologetic? and basking in your “SUCCESS”? GAGUHAN NA ITO!

you know, if this happened in another country, people would have thrown stones into your stores that same day. mababait lang tayo kaya hanggang hate page and boycott lang kaya natin.

come to think of it, they didn’t ask the people to leave because they thought that people might still be interested in their 50% promo of non-optimus LG phones.or buy optimum at full price.

mention LG and i’m going to puke right away.

  4. karlo says:

the day before the bullshit sale, we asked the people from the LG SM North branch if they can accommodate the people. they said, just go there on the specified time… ma-accommodate daw. anung klaseng sale yung nangyari? kahit grade one matatalo sila. hindi kailangan ng magdamag na brainstorming para maisip yung dapat gawin. dapat yung top management may liability rin coz they approved of this sale. i was really disappointed sa sale. first time ko pumila sa ganung sale.. ndi na cguro mauulit… lessons learned. ridiculously, lg spent thousands for ads just to sell 50 units (or less) per store? that’s pathetic… they should fire their marketing people. asap!

  5. mokong says:

weh… nagfill-up ako… wala pa namang details un LG… BOOOOO!

  6. @jazzper
sa sm pala sya kaya pala nung sale ko palang sya nakita dun sa gmall hehe..mapuntahan nga ang sm para makita ko sya ulit..hehe sa gmall pa rin ba ang sale o kasali na ang sm? 30% is still okay malaki laki na ring tipid yon. pero titingnan ko muna kung same pa rin mechanics kasi i dont want to repeat that experience na sumakit paa ko kakatayo. im expecting kasi that after the 50% eh ibababa man lang nila yung discount which is still a good deal but to no avail. i want to experience the android kasi. pero nawala bigla sakit ng mga paa ko ng makita ko ung girl na yon..hehe

  7. ihateLG says:

karlo, the way i see it, yes, they spent thousands of ads. but not to sell 100 of units of discounted LG. the ads were to draw people in that day, and hoping they will buy the discounted non-optimus units, or buy optimus at full price.

i used to say since this happened that marketing people are so moronic and LG people that day are incompetent. but come to think of it, they could have impose a cut-off early but they didn’t, because they were instructed not to.

because they want those thousand people to stay and purchase. why didn’t they advertise the 50% discount on non-optimus phones? optimus is just a teaser, the real promotion is on non-optimus phones. Why would you turn people away who might buy the optimus at full price? bat mo nga naman papaalisin ang isang libong tao na may dalang cash, enough at then?

in the end, LG intended to make a quick buck at our expense.

  8. nger nger says:

may dalang pera to try out android at 6.5k. I think onti lang naibenta nilang non-optimus one phones eh. i don’t think the pampalubag-loob bibili nalang ako ng ibang LG phones worked out. ikaw ba naman na pumila buong araw to get what you don’t want sa same LG store, no way, titingin nalang ako sa iba.

hindi rin kayang maibigay ng ibang sellers ang pinang-pain ng LG that day. HTC Smart at CM Eclipse @ 6495? no way, jose! Dapat HTC Wildfire at CM Nova nalang, kahit hanggang 8490 pa. :D

I think most of the people who had the 7k cash decided to keep it and wait for x-mas nalang, when they have higher purchasing powers na.

  9. Vannie says:

the failure is that they only had the promo for LG Optimus One, those sellers at your booths are dumb-asses. Should have coordinated with the mall security personnel. Biggest mistake is that they let the people expect that they could still accommodate most of them. A DTI representative should have been introduced or should be on site. Lousy upper management, should have just raffled it away so people won’t be bothered. You just infuriated those thousands that will surely tell 6 of their friends of what you have done. Do not call it a success because those suppose to be customers are more than those who say it was.

We, Filipinos, are fighters, hopefuls and risk takers. That is why we fell in line to such event.

What we, who fell in line, were or are pointing @ is the way you/LG managed your consumers/customers in such event.

You/LG should be on top of this. The consumers/customers sensed the Ad before the consumers/customers fell in line. Your name as LG was on the Ad. Even if it is the lack of just somebody or part of the crew of such event, still you/LG(the Big Name on the Ad) should be blamed or questioned. That is the reality/true rule of the world or boundary you are working or moving in.

It is just like a family or organization. If a member made mistake/s or sin/s, then the PARENT or the PRESIDENT must be questioned by the affected factors(or persons — well in our case, CUSTOMERS/CONSUMERS).

In brief rationale, we are looking at you/LG, and you are looking at your staffs or members who worked under or for you.

    CUSTOMERS ARE CUSTOMERS.

The event happened was an obvious way of telling that you/LG are more persuader than them(or the other side). Please, LG, do not make us ignorant or stupid. We, who fell in line, are not that naive. We, who fell in line, were really affected. Without customers/consumers, you can not make sales. Even if you say that we should not be there if we know that it will gonna happen(no chance), still we would come for/because again we are fighters(like Manny Pacquiao—who just recently won the Manny Pacquiao & Margarito boxing fight), risk takers(like Charice Pempengco) and hopefuls.

Fighter, risk taker and/or hopeful type of people are the people who live and who knows FREEDOM.

We, who fell in line, were sure buyers. The way you advertise was very obviously deceiving.

In short, your CUSTOMER’S CONVENIENCY skill was very disappointing and unethical in the world of SALES.

I personally fell in line. I was just 2 customers away from the cut off(last buyer of such promo–1 hour only). I even prevented my urine to come out just to get the chance. I started to fall in line at 8am until 3pm(when the 1 hour sale event ended), Philippines time. The host was still announcing that there are more items however he never said the possibilities of the pace of the transaction. The host did not even to manage to announce the difficulty of getting the chance so that we will not be wasting our time waiting. There were thousands of people waiting to get their chance out of 20 items only sold however still the host did not even announce to these thousands of people waiting about the possibilities of not getting the chance. LG, we have believed in you but because of what happened, thousands of people’s LIFE is no GOOD in that time due to broken hopes you were rendering. The host was only announcing that they are the only one who has that kind of event(1 hour sale 50 % off for unlimited–no exact number of such item/s). That is deceiving.

If you want more people but less items, why not do it in Entertainment instead?

Now LG, please confirm/answer this(simple yes or no question):

Were you up to the customer or to the sale?

If customer, then something good(or I shouldn’t be doing this) must have happened.

Else, if sale, then you are not a good example.

In other words, the question is, Sale before Customer or Customer before Sale?

Please answer all the questions LG. I personally beg you. We, who fell in line, were really badly affected.

Mga tols GAS (gear acquisition syndrome)lang yan, next month , next year may sigurado lalabas na mas maganda features mas mura pa… 3-6 months lang faded na usual excitement sa isang gear; Si Bossing ko iPhone 4 ngayon pakalat kalat na lang ,iPad gusto na palitan ng new Macbook Air cause of flash support and keyboard, Meron na Canon 20D, 30D, 40D dinagdagan pa ng 5D Mark2, Yan eh si Bossing ko na mayaman… GAS talaga.. My 1st phone was the brick sized Nokia 2010 in ’95, then a 5110 by ’99, 3315 by 2002, 3100 by 2005, and 2630 by 2008.. 3 years ang tinatagal sakin ng isang phone.. Ngayon lang ulit ako nagbabalak bumili ng new phone and gusto ko sana makipagsabayan dyan sa sale na yan pero buti na lang what I really want is the new C3 Touch and Type and sana meron na nito before Xmas!

  20. DJ Alyaris says:

Funny move LG. Maybe they were just trying out the market… “Hmmm. My phones aren’t selling as much. Let’s see how much market we really have. Let’s do a sale. If a lot of people come, then we have a market.” Thing is, looks like they just lost that market. :p Negative publicity, is still publicity, but not at a business perspective. They were able to attain their goal. A lot of people, who were unaware of Android, probably did their research and are now aware of what Android is. Thing is, they might not go to LG to get their Android anymore, after what they’ve experienced. :)

    Bad strategy LG.
