Sen. Legarda to keynote 13th ICT Professionals’ CongressA staunch supporter of the Philippine information and communication technology (ICT) industry, Senator Loren Legarda will be the keynote speaker in the upcoming 13th ICT Professionals’ Congress (ICTPC) organized by the Philippine Computer Society (PCS), slated on May 20-21, 2009 at the Dusit Thani Manila in Makati City.
Legarda is the co-author of the Senate Bill 920, which pushes for the creation of the Department of Information Communication Technology (DICT), a proposed government agency that will oversee the development of the country’s ICT sector, to make the Philippines more competitive and at par with its neighboring Asia Pacific countries.
Countries with successful ICT platforms and departments include Singapore, China and Australia.
Under her proposed bill, Legarda pushes for the integration of the Commission on Information and Communication Technology (CICT) with other government agencies such as the National Computer Center, Telecommunications Officer and other communications units of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) into a full-fledged department.
Legarda is expected to deliver during the conference her keynote speech with the topic “Business with a Conscience”.
The 13th ICTPC is a perfect venue to discuss the latest trends, issues and developments in the ICT sector such as wireless business data communication and next generation mobile solutions.
The event will also feature lectures and plenary sessions on the emerging challenges and opportunities in the ICT sector in times of a global financial crisis.
This year’s ICT Professionals’ Congress is participated by leaders in the IT and telecom industries as well as decision makers in the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector including IBM Philippines, Bayantel Telecommunications Inc., ePLDT and Trend Micro, among others.
Top officials from industry and governments organizations such as the CICT, Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Philippine Software Industry Association, Contact Center Association of the Philippines and the Commission on Higher Education will also be participating in the event.
