13th ICT Professionals’ Congress endorsed by key gov’t agencies
The yearly staging of the country’s premiere forum for crucial developments in the information and communication technology (ICT) industry once more got the endorsement of key government agencies.
The Philippine Computer Society’s (PCS) 13th ICT Professionals’ Congress (ICTPC) got an assurance of support each from the most industry relevant government agencies. These include the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
According to CICT Chairman Ray Anthony Roxas-Chua III, “We join the PCS in its continuing commitment to build excellence for the IT profession. We look forward to collaborating with the PCS in its projects that support the development of the country’s human capital.” CICT is the government agency mandated to promote the development of ICT expertise to enable Filipinos to compete in a fast-evolving information and communications age.
For its part, CHED Chairman Emmanuel Angeles enjoined the voluntary participation of both public and private higher education institutions in the PCS activity through a memorandum distributed to all CHED Central and Regional Director, as well as Heads of Higher Education Institutions.
In a similar manner, TESDA Secretary Augusto “Boboy” Syjuco, through a memorandum circular, has encouraged heads or representatives of private technical vocational institutions to participate in the ICT Congress.
Now on its 13th year and slated to be held on May 20-21, 2009 at the Hotel Dusit Thani, Makati City, the ICTPC shall feature plenary sessions on the major developments and directions of global and local technology providers, market leaders in wireless business data communication and next generation mobile solutions, and insights from top CIOs, information systems executives and certified professionals.
Valuable inputs from the education sector and government policy-makers on ICT matters are also on the agenda, in the hope of addressing the mismatch between curriculum and the actual human capital needs of the industry.
