Mozilla promises Firefox Mobile

Mozilla says it is now working on Firefox for the mobile platform, and I say it’s about time! We’ll just have to wait for it by 2009.

To date, the Mozilla community has developed Joey, an application to send information gleaned via the desktop browser to the mobile phone, and Minimo, an attempt to map the browser to a specific mobile context. Minimo will not be developed further, says Mozilla developer Mike Schroepfer.

At the moment, I’m using Mobile Internet Explorer, Opera Mini, and Opera Mobile 8.65. Opera Mobile is great and has a good number of supported mobile platforms and phone models.

It would be interesting exciting to see Firefox join the group. I just hope it doesn’t become a memory hog like the desktop version.

I can’t wait for a firefox mobile phone browser. I LOVE Mozilla firefox, I think it really kicks IE7′s butt. But while waiting I suggest you try Opera Mini Beta, I think it’s the best mobile browser out there. I’m using it on my Motorola E770 and my Dopod D810 and it really has a nice interface and it’s only the beta version.
