Paypal Mobile now on iPhone and Android

Paypal Mobile is now available to members in the Asia Pacific region, including the Philippines starting today. Aside from the WAP site, both the iPhone app and the Android app is available to download for free.

This is according to a press release sent by Paypal today:

“Consumers today want fast, secure and convenient methods of conducting their online financial transactions,” said Rahul Shinghal, Regional Mobile Manager for PayPal Asia Pacific. “It is clearly evident that the mobile phone is becoming an essential part of daily life here in Malaysia. PayPal’s availability on the mobile is a natural development for us as we strive to provide our users here with the most convenient and secure online transaction experience available. With PayPal’s new mobile application, users can now securely manage their money online and send money for payments quickly, both locally and around the world.”

While there are existing 3rd-party Paypal for iPhone apps in the iTunes Store, they cost between $3.99 and $4.99. The official Paypal Mobile iPhone App is free.

I was able to download the official Paypal app thru iTunes but a search on the Android Market turned out blank. I’ve already sent word to Paypal as this might just be a delay. Will update this post once I receive their reply on the matter.

That’s great news for all PayPal users in the Asia Pacific region. I really hope that the PayPay Debit Card would be made available there in the Philippines and other countries outside the US soon.

@yuga I think it’s the official Paypal App because it’s made by Paypal. But here’s the thing, the Paypal currency defaults to UK sterling pounds but I can set it to other currencies (unfortunately no Phil Peso for now). I bought my HTC hero from ebay UK. I might have a european version of the htc hero which connects to the european version of the android market :-s

And since it’s on the iPhone, it’s also on the iTouch (which I got as a gift). I’m actually enjoying Paypal mobile :)

@charles – is it the official Android App or a 3rd-party app? I’m searching for Paypal in the Market several times in the past and today but haven’t found it.

Hmmm… I’ve been using the Paypal App on Android for months now… One thing I don’t like on the app is that it doesn’t show the correct currency on the transactions. It’s always showing as USD when it should show as Peso
