Google Chromebook Pixel leaks, MacBook competitor?

Listen to article

A video just made the rounds on the internet claiming to be Google’s very own laptop, named the Chromebook Pixel.

The video comes from a company named Slinky. The leaked video was taken down after a while, but was uploaded on YouTube soon enough. The company’s CEO, Victor Koch, claimed on Google Plus that they have been hacked and some of their projects have been leaked. More interesting is that Sergey Brin is tagged on the apology note.

The Chromebook Pixel, named Google Link by the source, features a super high-res screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1700. To top it off, it’s also a touch-enabled display. Halfway through the video, there was an array of colored dots shown which resembles the Nexus logo in a way. Other than that, there seems to be nothing else to note.

No other brands have been mentioned, so it could be possible that this one is similar to Google’s Nexus line – specifically the discontinued Q. The video can be a fake however, but there is a high chance that this could be real since the video is professionally made and the clues hinting towards it.

Rounding up the rumors, it seems that along with this, we will see Android Key Lime Pie with the Motorola X Phone when Google I/O comes.

Hey there just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your article seem to be
running off the screen in Internet explorer.
I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I figured I’d
post to let you know. The style and design look great though!
Hope you get the issue fixed soon. Cheers

The only reason why I don’t consider buying a Chrome book is I wouldn’t be able to install iTunes in it. I’m an iPhone and iPod user – I would clearly need iTunes to manage these devices particularly music.

With all my stuff moving to Google Drive (and Dropbox), I can honestly see this as my next notebook.

“The video can be a fake however, but there is a high chance that this could be real since the video is professionally made…”

Somebody hasn’t been on the internet long enough to understand it.

Bob please don’t make the title so misleading. Nowhere in your article mentioned this laptop to be a macbook competitor.

@topic; I’d like to see this personally and see how it fares with the current windows laptops. I haven’t tried Chrome OS yet and I wanna see the potential t has.

It’s not really a point to focus on, but of course it’s pure Google and it directly competes with Apple’s Retina Display. However, it clashes with the idea that Chrome OS can’t compete with OS X yet, so it’s unclear on that one. I just wanted to let the people know that it is pure Google at first read. Thanks for the tip though. I’ll focus on that one.

Bob: “the title is.. not really the point to focus on.”

“Apple scared s**t of Google’s Chromebooks” and other similar titles might have been just as appropriate then?
