Google Maps now supports Driving Directions

Google Maps on your mobile phone just got more useful with support for Driving Directions. This is probably the best feature on Google Maps that’s only been recently enabled in the Philippines.

The driving directions include several route options by car, bus or on foot. Information includes estimated distance and travel time.

I tried looking for directions to Baguio and it gave me 262km with 3 hours and 18 minutes travel time via car but could not provide info when switched to a bus. On foot, Google Maps estimated 278km distance and travel time of 2 days and 9 hours. Pretty neat, huh?

Yeah! noticed this a week ago while everybody was on a siri craze, and thought of testing the voice command of google haha..

next step is to fix our traffic rules to accurately get directions.. then followed by implementing the MMDA traffic into google’s server to get traffic news on google maps..

    • Brickz says:

Nope, Navigation isn’t available here yet.

    • croizanne says:

search for the mapsonwhere apk for android to use the navigation on countries where turn by turn navigation is not supported. this apk does not need root.

wala kasing exact time yung departure & arrival ng buses sa pinas

    • Brickz says:

Sabihin mo, wala kasing sistema ang pag commute dito sa pinas. Lalo na sa Manila na walang time table ang public vehicles.

amateur… that’s still the state of google maps in the Philippines until it supports complete country map preloading and turn-by-turn navigation. Nokia Maps pa rin. Saved my life several times on the road and from the route-crazy taxi drivers. hirap magdrive na walang voice navigation. you will need a wingman for that.

I have one big question !! How did you get the personal hotspot to work? I have an factory unlocked iPhone 4 but it doesn’t show that option anywhere in the settings… By the way, this direction support for google maps has been available in the Philippines since about the start of October.
    Waiting for your response.

    Jack

P.S. I’m assuming you haven’t jailbroken your device.

  16. Morgan says:

I discovered this a few days ago, and yes, it’s really neat. But Google assumes that your car travels at around 70km/hr all the time, which is not possible unless you’re at the expressway or at non-rush hour EDSA. Imagine, it told me that travel time to Aparri is just nine hours! :-) It shows a lot of promise and really tells you where to go.
