Google Reader Recommends

Listen to article

One new feature that Google Reader has just rolled out is the Top Recommendations, an automated feed recommendation feature.

Google reader will look into your feeds and list other blog feeds that you may be also interested in. They don’t say they do this, and I’m not a regular Google Reader user, but I have some ideas.

Google Reader Recommends

First, since Google has full information about your feed reading habits, it may have factored in keyword topic densities, blog titles/descriptions, and inbound/outbound and link popularity and compare that to all feeds using that filter. The catch, however, is that the recommendations will favor those blogs with large RSS subscriptions.

Aside from the top 3 recommended feeds, a link to more related feeds direct you to a new page. I would have favored if they do it more randomly though to give fair chances to newer blogs. It would also be interesting if the system can make recommendations based on language and geographic profiles of blogs.

Any new feed subscriber happen to discover this blog thru Google Reader Recommendations?

I just saw this new feature yesterday and I think that this may come in handy especially if I felt the urge to go bloghopping. ^_^

Happy blogging!
