Fraud Investigator – Fraud Operations

The Fraud team will review mortgage loan files to determine if fraudulent information was provided by any of the parties to the transaction.  This information will be used to either stop a fraudulent loan from being approved or to identify fraudulent loans that have been originated either directly or through third parties for CHL
As a Fraud Investigator you will be required to perform thorough file reviews based on specific criteria to determine if fraudulent information was provided by any of the parties to the transaction.  This will include a complete review of the data provided by automated fraud tools and data used for the underwriting decision, appraisal reviews, and the review of closing documents as well as any other documents or information that is relevant to the transaction in order to recommend a fraud decision.  You will be trained in the mortgage loan underwriting processes and how to identify suspicious and fraudulent information in the loan file.

Key Responsibilities:

*Follow predetermined check lists and procedures to review pre-funded and post-funded loan files and transactions for suspicious or fraudulent information.

*Use independent judgment to review and analyze pre-funded and/or post-funded mortgage transactions and loan files to determine if fraud or misrepresentation exists. This includes analyzing referrals from Underwriting, Fraud Tools (Loan Safe, HistoryPro and InstantID), Quality Assurance groups, Investor Support Services, Default and other departments within CHL.  Input and maintain findings in departmental database for data mining and identification of trends and patterns.

*Prepare required notifications and review summaries, concisely, accurately and timely, in written format(s) for notification to stateside Fraud Analyst and/or appropriate internal personnel.. (e.g., Customer Management Group, Investor Support Services, Quality Assurance, etc.)

*Utilize analytical and investigative skills to detect underlying fraudulent activity, commonalities, motives and related parties.  Identify trends and patterns among suspicious mortgage loans and mortgage data; utilize this information to uncover and expose fraud schemes.

*Manage loan referral pipeline to ensure reviews are completed timely and meet internal and regulatory guidelines

*Provide assistance to peers with their workloads if required.

*Work special projects or other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

*Four year college degree.

*Two or more years of accounting/underwriting/credit experience and understanding.

*Two or more years of fraud investigation or prevention experience highly desired.

*Two or more years of mortgage loan underwriting experience highly desired.

*Superior analytical, critical thinking and decision-making skills. The ability to ask probing questions.

*Ability to analyze mortgage loan documents, tax returns and appraisals.

*Strong knowledge of mortgage markets and the geographical landscape for fraud and declining markets highly desired

*Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Knowledge of mortgage loan documents by name and sight for proper staging.

* Strong computer skills to operate in a multiple application driven computer environment with automation.

*Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

*Ability to consistently meet and prioritize targets for productivity, quality and customer service.
