Responsibilities:

The System Administrator is responsible for the timely resolution of server operating system issues to ensure that that performance and availability targets are met. The System Administrator ensures compliance with established security guidelines, approved standards, and approved company policies and procedures in the execution of assigned duties.
50% System Administration

  • As a second and third level support analyst, ensures availability of global server environments and is responsible for service level attainment.
  • In-depth understanding of server fundamentals including kernel subsystems (scheduler, VM, etc), system calls, inter-process communication, process/resource management and file systems.
  • A through understanding of platform specific server virtualization technologies such as VMWare, Xen, PowerVM, and Integrity Virtual machine.
  • Responsible for service level attainment and resolution of systems issues to ensure availability and performance goals are met.
  • Install and configure server hardware and operating systems in accordance with established Global Standards. Analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves basic to complex hardware and operating system issues.
30% Projects

  • Participates and manages technology projects and internal improvement initiatives as assigned.
  • Provides senior level technical subject matter expertise in support of infrastructure projects.
  • Identifies deficiencies in assigned infrastructure and recommends technology solutions to the Global Technology Architect that increase overall operational efficiency and accomplish ITS goals.
10% Self or Group Development

  • Continuously develops technical skills inside and outside of assigned core technologies including methodologies available to provide optimal solutions.
  • Works to promote positive teamwork and build relationships among team members and across departmental teams.
  • Provide technical mentoring/coaching to team members. Presents technical topics to global team members as appropriate.

  • Fosters innovation by soliciting ideas, information and feedback from team members. Works with management in assessing and interviewing qualified candidates.
10% Reporting

  • Monitors infrastructure using approved tools and methods; provide recommendations that result in operational improvements.
  • Regularly creates and submits reports covering accomplishments, issues, metrics, and technology changes.
  • Provide reporting of system usage, capacity, and availability to management and users.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field

• 4 years of UNIX system administration experience. (HP UX, AIX)

• 6-8 years of information technology administration experience

• 4 years of experience with disk management, memory management, process management, and kernel/OS tuning.

• Advanced scripting knowledge (PERL, Shell, VBScript, or Powershell).

• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, and networking principles

• Advanced performance and troubleshooting skills.

• Ability to verbally present complex concepts and technical information to a non-technical audience in a clear and concise manner.

Unix Platform Requirements:

• Advanced scripting abilities (Kornshell, bash, Perl, etc).
