Microsoft Philippines launches Windows 8

Microsoft Philippines has announced today the availability of Windows 8 for local consumers following the global launch announcement last October 26, 2012.

Along with the launch of the touch-centric OS, Microsoft’s hardware partners such as Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba were also present to showcase their Windows 8-powered devices. There were notebooks, Ultrabooks, hybrids and All-In-One PCs but most of the excitement came from Windows 8 tablets such as the Acer Iconia W510, ASUS Vivo Tab, Samsung ATIV Tab and Sony VAIO Duo 11, to name a few.

Nokia was also present to demo their primary Windows Phone 8 smartphones – the Lumia 920 and the Lumia 820.

Microsoft has also tied up with the country’s leading organizations and businesses to develop their local apps to be available in Windows 8. These include ABS-CBN, Sulit.com.ph, SM Cinema, BPI, Globe, Smart, Meralco, Cebu Pacific, Resorts World Manila, LBC, MMDA and MyMakati.

Through the end of January, consumers currently running PCs with Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7, are qualified to download Windows 8 Pro for USD39.99. You may also visit Microsoft’s partner retail outlets for the Windows 8 retail box at USD69.99 for a Windows 8 upgrade. Eligible Windows 7 PCs purchased between June 2, 2012, and January 31, 2013 in more than 140 countries can download Windows 8 Pro for an estimated retail price of USD14.99 with the Windows Upgrade Offer, available at www.windowsupgradeoffer.com.

Today, while I was at work, my cousin stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a thirty foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation.
My iPad is now destroyed and she has 83 views.

I know this is completely off topic but I had to share it with someone!

    Hi,

All prices are for windows 8 are for upgrade versions only. correct?

or you can get retail box windows 8 pro in those prices if you have xp or 7? just correct me if i’m wrong.

    • Avatar for joseph joseph says:

You can buy the upgrade with retail box for $69.99, pero yung $14.99 na promo pure download lang yun tapos kung gusto mo mag karoon ng disc talaga may extra bayad but i think backup disc lang xa not the disc with the retail box.

Any news from Microsoft Phils. regarding the release of Surface in the Philippines?

    • Avatar for Louie Louie says:

      Hi miongb,

We didn’t get any info regarding the Surface tablet. I don’t think it was even mentioned during the event.

Sir, where was this event held? Was this an exclusive event? Thanks.

I think sa SM North Edsa yan. Nag-held ang Microsoft ng event para i-showcase mga bagong laptops and devices with Windows 8. I went there while we’re on a short vacation.

With Windows 8, Microsoft created a better transition from existing devices to touchscreen generation. Its totally different from W7, and its totally better. Although W8 is preferred with a touchscreen input, and familiarizing many gestures seem so tiring, its really much easier to use. Apple should have done the same with their OS-upgrade from iOS 5 to iOS 6.

Available pa po bang mapuntahan ang place na to para makita yung mga nasabing devices na kasama sa launching?

Available na bang yang windows 8 devices na yan sa mga stores? Or i have to wait for christmas? I wanted to buy windows 7 laptop pero gusto ko kasi pre-installed windows 8 os. Kaya naghintay ako. Kung available na sya, diretso na ko sa mall bukas.

Yuga and Louie, the promotion for those who recently bought Windows 7 or Windows 7 PCs is USD 14.99, the USD 39.99 is for the rest of us (until the offer lasts). I didn’t have to attend a launch to get that.

Just installed on my 3-year old Vista-running Asus. It took more than 3 hours to complete! Feels like my old clunker of a machine has been reborn to a whole new dimension! Awesome!

    • Avatar for Louie Diangson Louie Diangson says:

Runs well on my old Acer Aspire One ZG5 netbook. Have to connect it to a larger display though if I want to make use of the apps.

    • Avatar for thecorrescode thecorrescode says:

3 hours to install? That is unacceptable.

    • Avatar for Kanda Kanda says:

Why did it take you 3 hours to install?
Did you do an upgrade installation?
Please let me know because I’m interested in upgrading my laptop into Windows 8.

I have my Windows 8 disc since September all thanks to my Microsoft DreamSpark Premium membership and I’m still thinking if I should use it or not.

    • Avatar for Enya Enya says:

Downloading the 2-gig Win8 Pro on a 2mbps during a peak afternoon ate up the first two hours.

    • Avatar for joseph joseph says:

3 hours – i think that includes the Windows 8 Pro download. When you upgrade, Windows Upgrade Assistant will download 2.63GB worth of files to run the Windows 8 Pro installer.

After the download you are given the option to burn it into a disc or copy over to USB or just leave it then and there and continue installation of Windows 8.
