Acer unveils its first Intel-powered Android smartphone

Acer has unveiled its latest and first mid-range Android smartphone that is powered by a single-core Intel Atom processor – the Liquid C1.

Acer-Liquid-C1

The Acer Liquid C1 packs a 4.3-inch IPS display with a resolution of 960 x 540 which equates to 256ppi. Like its sibling, the Liquid E1, it has a 5 megapixel camera, VGA front-facing, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage with microSD support, HSPA, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth 2.1. However, it is powered by a single-core 1.2GHz Atom Z2420 Lexington CPU with Hyper-Threading support and a larger 2,000 mAh battery. The only downside is it runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. No official news yet on Jellybean upgrade.

The Acer Liquid C1 has a price tag of $335 or almost Php14,000 and will be available in black and white. It will go on sale first in Thailand this month followed by the rest of the South East Asian markets.

I have been surfing online more than 3 hours today, yet I
never found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me.
Personally, if all website owners and bloggers made good content as you did,
the net will be much more useful than ever before.

wouldn’t running on an x86 lead to less compatibility in terms of apps in the Playstore?

“All apps that use the Android SDK and run on the Dalvik Java virtual machine are compatible with phones running Intel chips. However 70%of apps that use the Android NDK) are compatible, but since far fewer apps use the Android NDK, Intel believe that its chips can run 95 per cent of all Android apps software.” – source: The Inquirer (http://s.tt/1dtgQ)

Since it’s x86, is it possible to install a Windows OS here like XP or even Win 7?

    • Avatar for someone someone says:

I dont know about that but I don’t see any benefit in running a different OS especially Windows PC OS in a mobile phone.

    • Avatar for Chrollo Chrollo says:

I’m not really sure about the benefits. But just the idea that it can be done could open up a whole lot of other possibilities.

lets put it this way : using intel with android is like driving a ferrari through a rally track ha ha

@RED – Lesser cores doesn’t mean lesser performance. The Atom Z2420 Lexington is based on the x86 architecture which they mastered already. Intel knows more about processors than anyone else.

    • Avatar for reader reader says:

@buster: you are partly correct. CPU optimization maybe Intel’s forte. However, the OS needs to be also optimized to the CPU it is running on. Let’s hope that Android was optimized for x86 architecture.

    • Avatar for Buster Buster says:

@reader: Sorry, I’m not partly correct. Have you even heard of Intel and Google’s development partnership way back in 2011???

Mahal naman nito for a single core device. Meron kc ibang brand na dual core na 14k or less eh

    • Avatar for Ryan Ryan says:

Man that’s Intel… You know how pricey they are. :)

    • Avatar for Miss Pinky Heart Miss Pinky Heart says:

You`re referring to dual core ARM based processors (which is nasa majority of smartphones) versus this x86 (Atom/PC) based processor, they´re totally different.

    • Avatar for NeutralGuy NeutralGuy says:

Lol’d at this. Puro kayo number of cores without knowing the architecture of the processor. Kahit na single core ang Intel processor na ‘to, it easily beats dual core cortex a9 based processors. Considering the price of 14K, I would say that this is a steal.

I consider ICS to be pretty much the same with JB except for the smoothness and fluidity of the OS.I know this because having tested a ICS Sharp SH530U from my Mom and having owned myself a LG nexus 4.

Hmmm… Pardon my ignorance but is ICS really that bad compared to Jelly bean, much to say that it’s a downside?
