Other than the two recently announced 5-inchers, it seems that Alcatel still has a pair of aces up its sleeves, and a thin and light one if we may add. Folks, meet the world’s slimmest smartphone yet, the One Touch Idol Ultra and its light counterpartm the One Touch Idol.
The Idol Ultra tips the scale measuring only 6.45mm in thickness, or thinness, whichever rocks your boat. The Idol Ultra is more than half a millimeter thinner than the iPhone 5 which according to Phil Schiller, Apple’s VP for Global Marketing, is the world’s thinnest smartphone.
The handset is packed with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM, a 4.7″ HD (1280×720) Super AMOLED display and a pair of snappers; 1.3MP above the display and 8MP on the rear end. A major let down about this handset is that users are stuck with a measly and non-expandable 8GB internal storage. But it’s not as bad as you think; wait until you see its meeker brother.
Much like the flagship One Touch Scribe X, the Idol Ultra also has a sibling, the One Touch Idol. Although it does not bear the same sexy profile as its Ultra counterpart, the company claims that this handset has one of the lightest, if not the “lightest smartphone in its category”. The handset only weighs 110g, which is 9 grams lighter than the Idol Ultra.
However, in exchange for its lighter frame, the One Touch Idol will feature a more modest specs which includes a 4.7-inch qHD IPS display and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 512MB RAM. Just like the Ultra, the Idol also lacks a micro-SD card slot which prohibits users to expand its storage capacity. To makes things worse, you have to live with a disappointingly small 4GB ROM.
Another thing that’s intriguing about this handset, as reported by Engadget, is that it doesn’t have a 3.5mm audio jack. So not only will consumers be stuck with a 4GB storage, they’ll also won’t be able to listen to their tunes in private.
Alcatel is said to only release the Idol Ultra in China this month with a CNY2799 (Php18,631) price tag. The One Touch Idol is also slated for a February market debut, but its price is yet to be disclosed.

Sa mga nagsasabing walang audio out ang Idol Ultra, meron naman syang kasamang mini-ub to 3.5 jack adaptor… kaya wag na kayo malungkot kung ang problema nyo ay plug for the earphone…

I always used to study paragraph in news papers but now as I
am a user of web so from now I am using net for posts, thanks
to web.
Sa sobrang nipis ng new phone ng alcatel, wala ng space para sa audio out. 6.45mm yan diba ? pwede naman ata mag earphone with mini usb port. may avail. naman siguro nyan sa market. :)
Good job pa den sa alcatel, sila na may hawak ng record na thinnest smartphone.
if you ask me, they should name these phones as “Joke” & “Big Joke”, respectively.
what’s happening to alcatel?
after the promising ot 995 sapphire (it was a very nice 1.4ghz smartphone in the era of single core 1ghz units in mid 2012), then came the mediocre t-10 tablet; then the sub 1ghz phones; and lately single core smartphones lineups that cost too much and now these?
If being the slimmest is this phone’s main selling point, maybe they should’ve named it “SuperModel” instead.
If it supports A2DP and they package it with a decent bluetooth headset for sub-12K, this just might sell.
Reading about the later was a waste of my time!
pede naman gumawa ng earphone na miniusb port…
nakalimutan lng cguro…
cguro 10k pede n toh makabenta
Hmmm.. No 3.5mm jack for audio? Pano na kaya yun? kahit low-end cheapo phones meron na nyan and it cost P18k pa for a 4gb. Totally waste of money.
That’s a pretty long ass retarded name.
