Alcatel OT Blaze Duo 890D: Froyo for Php4,999

Looks like Alcatel Philippines also has their own dual-SIM Android smartphone called the OneTouch Blaze Duo 890D. It has a suggested retail price but Alcatel is giving it for an introductory price of Php4,999.

Alcatel OT Blaze Duo 890D specs:
2.8-inch display @ 320×240 pixels
420MHz processor
150MB internal storage
up to 16GB via microSD card
WiFi 802.11 b/g
Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP
2MP camera
Stereo FM radio with RDS
GPS w/ aGPS support
1000mAh Li-Ion battery
Android 2.2. Froyo

There’s no 3G here, just EDGE for both the two SIM modules. The handsets are available in Fuschia, Orange and Steel Grey. Regular price is Php5,999 but it’s down to just Php4,999 with the limited promo.

Bought the phone for my mom last October. I hope this post ain’t too long and sir Abe would approve it.

Texting is HARD – you need to retype and retype since the screen is so slow. Keypads can be set to qwerty, 3 x 4 and other formats — all which are are frustrating to use. If you love to text, this phone is definitely NOT for you. A remedy for texting is to use the landscape mode of the phone, remove all the add on features (dictionary, chinese keyboards etcetc) and text slowly.

The touchscreen also lags, as you navigate, you will definitely press other icons by accident.

Call features – voice clarity was great and the signal is good for both simcards (dualsim) – tested it on Sun Globe and Smart.

Browsing was ok, using the phone’s default browser was like browsing on an old resistive touch screen – There is a magnifying glass icon that controls the size of the webpage. But you will be able to access your regular websites perfectly.

    Wifi was good.

It only has edge, but give it a fast sim and a clear open sky, and you should be ok.

The sound was surprisingly clear and loud. Ringtones and MP3’s were a joy to listen to. Video streaming was ok and it did not hang nor lag for youtube or mp4’s.

    Battery was ok

Android was also ok, everything basic works fine – e-readers, messengers, emails etc. For games — sudoku, chess and other low end games worked. Angry birds and fruit ninja lags and hangs.

All in all, for 4800, it’s a pretty decent phone. Don’t expect too much for such a low price, you mainly pay for the android/dual sim feature – if you do not need dual sims, get a galaxy young.

i presume the unit uses the same mediatek chipset that dual sim china android phones are using the processors are outdated and much slower than the same clocked qualcomm processors

I find it funny that people who love to diss products are those who don’t have money. These poor souls have the guts to be obnoxious but doesn’t have the wealth, nor the intelligence to show for it… tsk tsk tsk…
