A group of cryptography, security, and mobile experts have come together to build a smartphone that focuses on protecting the digital privacy of its users, the Blackphone.
The Blackphone is a collaborative project between Silent Circle and Geeksphone. Together they pooled their resources to build a smartphone that puts a user’s privacy and control ahead of everything else, including advertising.
The Blackphone is unlocked and will work with any GSM carrier. It is configured, setup, and modified for security both in software and hardware levels. Exact specs haven’t been disclosed yet but it claims to have performance benchmarks that “put it among the top performers from any manufacturer.”
Running the sofware side of the Blackphone is PrivatOS – a modified version of Android OS with added layers of security and tools that lets users take control of his / her mobile presence and digital footprints.
You can make and receive secure phone calls; exchange secure texts; exchange and store secure files; have secure video chat; browse privately; and anonymize your activity through a VPN.
Pricing is also yet to be disclosed but users can start pre-ordering on February 24, 2014 at the Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona, Spain.

Blackberry is known for its very secured platform kaya kahit mga gov’t agencies nakablackbbery pa rin…since secured din ito edi di talagang maiiwasan na maikumpara to sa bb…
At first glance i thought it was a CM Omega HD2.0. LOL
Hanep..
But then again, its a great OS din naman kung all out secured ang info mo at communications from other.
As for the phone, yung backing nya parang Kevlar like the Motorola Phone dati.
At sana Tegra 4 chipset niya :)))))
Is there a white version of this? The White Blackphone? :)
YES. With the Whitephone, everything, your calls, your texts, etc will be shared on social networking, and the default setting is public.
Android phone with better security than blackberry phone =) FTW
Huawei will be the manufacturer.
Geeksphone ang manufacturer hindi Huawei. Geeksphone is a Spanish manufacturer. Currently meron sila mga Firefox OS phones
I’m going to purchase one! :)
Malamang nman its for the communication kaya need maging secure.
I guess the reasons they simply “tweaked” and utilized the Android OS are that: 1) Android being an open source would mean cost-efficiency on their end. Kasi at least hindi na nila kailangang mag-start from scratch in building their own OS and uber sophisticated server infrastructure and 2) Yes, it will be easier for them to win customers because one of the factors in capturing a market is to introduce a familiar (but much improved) product line.
Like what he said, modifiable kasi ang android os, mas madali siyang ma decrypt para ma enhance and security reasons unlike ng iba, specially the mansanas phone na baka ma sue lang sila after nila kumita ng malaki lol.
