We have already covered a lot about Cherry Mobile’s newest flagship phone, the Omega Infinity. We have compared it to its competitors and have even published a quick review already. Now it receives our detailed review treatment, so read on our full Cherry Mobile Omega Infinity review down below.
Design and Construction
We have already established a lot of things about the Omega Infinity’s design language. It’s amazingly built with a design that resembles both an HTC One and an iPhone 5 (aluminum for the most part, plastic bottom for the radios), and at the same time, it’s massive, having a display that is 5.5-inches in size. Despite that, it feels good to hold thanks to the very thin bezels.
The 3.5mm audio port and the micro-USB port are at the top end while the volume rocker and power button are on the right side. The microphone and speakers at the bottom end while the micro-SIM card slot is on the left side.
Cherry Mobile has packed in a casing together with the phone, and nice to say it’s really good. It doesn’t feel cheap and it adds another level of premium up to some extent. On top of all of that, despite the white color, dirt and debris isn’t easily attracted.
Display
The display is a large 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920. It’s fairly responsive, the contrast works and the colors are all vibrant and well saturated. Being an IPS panel, we didn’t encounter any problems with the viewing angles.
OS, Apps and UI
The phone runs Android 4.2.2 Jellybean, but with a skin called MyUI. There are a lot of changes here from your usual Android skin, and whether you’ll love it or hate it, it’s here to stay.
First of all, there is no app drawer. All the icons are also themed, and as you’d expect, the design is put throughout the software from the notification bar to the settings menu. The bright side is, they’re all really consistent, and they don’t seem like cheap software tweaks.
There is an on-screen button that you can move around and have gestures registered, there are quick toggles on the notification shade and there are also a few apps preinstalled that may irritate some users. Having all these tweaks here will make you think of one thing for sure – updates will be slow; that is, if you are even lucky to receive an update.
Multimedia & Camera
The speakers on the Omega Infinity are fairly loud, but don’t expect it to blow you away. Video play on the other hand works really smoothly especially on the large and sharp 5.5-inch display. You will even get video previews on the gallery itself.
As for the 18 megapixel camera, the quality is just on par with other phones with similar sensors. The frame rate of the camera software is on the slow side, but the photos look okay for the most part. Low-light photography works and under daylight, you get a reasonable amount of detail. The colors and the contrast are on the fair side – nothing breathtaking, but it can sure use some improvement. Same can be said about video capture.

Performance & Benchmarks
The phone runs on a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek CPU, and while we can’t see any slowdowns navigating, we can say it can still use some improvement. You would expect an octa-core CPU to be blazing fast, but in experience, it isn’t anything that will knock your socks off.

As for the battery life, the Omega Infinity packs a 2,900mAh battery inside that is non-removable. From a full charge, we played video on 50% brightness and audio volume and we were able to get 5 and a half hours of juice. That’s quite on the average side. However, standby time is more impressive.

Conclusion
For the price of Php14,999, the CM Omega Infinity packs mighty spec configurations, but it isn’t anything revolutionary yet in terms of real life performance. It’s getting there though, and with an amazing design to back it up, the CM Omega Infinity is one to beat in the local market.
What we liked about it:

- Large and vibrant display
- Nice to hold despite massive size
- MyUI is really consistent
