Comparison: Sony Xperia Z2 vs Xperia Z1

The Sony Xperia Z1 has officially passed the flagship torch to its successor – the Xperia Z2. Head past the break to see the difference between the two premium smartphones in terms of its specs.

As mentioned on our first impression, the company didn’t make any drastic changes on the Z2’s design. If anything, Sony just made the device marginally thinner and lighter compared to its predecessor.

However, the handset maker has made some notable changes on their new flagship’s configuration which, in theory, makes the Xperia Z2 more powerful. Here’s the detailed specs sheet of the Sony Xperia Z2, alongside the Xperia Z1.

As you can see on the table above, even the inner workings of the Xperia Z2 closely resembles that of the Xperia Z1, although we’re expecting some performance boost courtesy of the new Snapdragon 801 and the 3GB of RAM.

Despite the absence of 2K resolution, the Xperia Z2 also received a modest upgrade on the display department with the inclusion of the IPS panel, as well as an extra 5mm of real estate which resulted in to a slightly lower, but still respectable, pixel density.

In addition to the aforementioned upgrades, the most significant improvement on the Sony Xperia Z2 will have to be its ability to record videos with 4K (3840×2160) resolution. The recently announced Samsung Galaxy S5 also has the similar functionality and we won’t be surprised if other companies will also follow suit.

The Sony Xperia Z2 will be available in White, Black, and Purple colors and will launch globally from March 2014.

Sony being a Japanese company practices ‘kaizen’, otherwise known as the principle of continuous improvement… we see it in how they’re having new Xperia Z* flagships every six months.

No need to wait for a whole year when they can bring out the latest and the greatest tech as soon as it’s ready. :-)
