D-Link DWR-530 Mobile 3.75G Router

D-Link’s got their own pocket WiFi (D-Link DWR-530) with the same features and functionalities that we’ve seen before from the likes of Huawei and ZTE.

The D-Link DWR-530 was launched back in January 17, 2012. The pocket WiFi is relatively small and lightweight (77 grams and 90mmx50mmx12mm).

We got a sample unit from D-Link and been using the router since this week-end. The DWR-530 supports mobile internet speeds of up to 7.2Mbps (3.75G or HSDPA).

The device comes with a removable battery with a rating of 1500mAh. D-Link promises up to 5 hours of usage on a single full charge but can’t seem to reach 4 hours on the road with this one (will need additional tests).

The battery charges via a micro-USB port on the side of the device. Beside this is a slot for a micro-SD card that supports capacity up to 32GB.

D-Link DWR-530 3.75G Mobile Router specs:
UMTS/HSDPA 7.2Mbps downlink, 5.76Mbps uplink
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
micro-USB port
micro-SD card up to 32GB
1500mAh Li-Ion battery

The DWR-530 already supports local SIM cards. I plugged in my SmartBro postpaid SIM card and the device worked right away in a matter of seconds. The LED indicator on the surface shows activity of mobile network, WiFi and battery status.

In any case, you can manage the settings for 3G and WiFi via the web browser. Here you can change the WiFi encryption, APNs and LAN.

The DWR-530 works as a WiFi router and a 3G modem separately — this is set via a switch beside the power button on the device. As a WiFi router, it shares mobile internet via WiFi; as a 3G modem, you can plug it to a PC or laptop and connect to the net via a dialer (useful when there’s no battery left in the device).

Maximum connected device maxes out at 6 clients but you can manually set this to a lower number via the web admin panel.

Tried doing some speedtest and this is the best I got today (using a SmartBro Power Plug-it Postpaid SIM).

The local reps of D-Link has not shared with us the suggested retail price of the DWR-530 (will update once I get it).

Just out of curiosity, what’s the SD card slot for? Can you save downloads directly into it? Will the contents be available to connected devices, whether it’s acting as a modem or a router?
