e-Mobile’s Konka T808 TV Phone

Saw this one at one of the stores last night. Was surprised Konka is into mobile phones as well and this T808 TV phone could have been launched months earlier.

3.0″ VGA screen
Dual active SIM
GPRS
Handwriting recognition
FM Radio
2MP camera
dual Bluetooth
Micro-SD Card Slot

My guess is that the TV is just analog and OTA, not the one used by Smart for myTV which is digital. Still, you get ABS-CBN and GMA 7 for free on this phone. This model is priced at Php8,500 which could attract people looking into dual SIM phones.

This is the same as the China phones. They say it’s a PDA but it is absolutely NOT a PDA. It doesn’t have an operating system like Symbian or Windows Mobile. That is why you cannot install new games or new softwares. It doesn’t have, and will never run Java. Therefore, it is impossible to open office files like Word, Excel, etc and PDF.

I’ve been using my T808 for more than a year (I bought it December 2008, quite hot then) and it’s quite durable as compared to other brands. The dual sim feature is great, not to mention the free TV feature. Still got my two batteries, but I can only use the charger when I directly connect it to my phone: it no longer functions well as a good battery-only charger. I am able to browse WAP through its built-in browser feature. I am even able to browse the internet using my PC connected to that phone, well after installing drivers for the phone modem and configuring Windows for the connection. If I can get more time, I’ll try to visit this forum thread again soon and provide some instructions on how to use the phone as a GPRS modem…

By the way, you can use ANY text file (files ending in “.TXT”) as an e-book. Just save that file in the EBOOK folder (either on the SD Flash module or on the built-in phone memory, whichever is chosen as the default e-book folder) and open it. Just that easy. You can save an entire text file version of your favorite book and read it on your phone as an e-book. I even use it as a way to store my to-buy list whenever I go to the market or grocery. Very useful indeed.
