Fake Samsung Galaxy S3 selling for Php9,000

Samsung’s recently launched flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S3, already has a clone and is being sold at an online retail store for about Php9,000 ($209).

It can be quite tricky to spot the difference between the legit and the clone but after a close inspection the S3 clone reveals its inferior design. Check out the video comparison below:

Apart from the looks, the HDC Galaxy S3 also has a lot of difference internally. The S3-clone’s single core 1GHz MediaTek MT6575 processor (same chip as the Lenovo P700) is far cry to that of the legit SGS3’s quad-core processor, although we might say that it runs quite smoothly based on the video. The fake SGS3 will also have a 512MB RAM along with the single core processor.

Other than the size, the HDC S3 clone’s screen bares no other resemblance to the real thing. It only sports a WVGA display with 480×800 screen resolution as compared to the Super AMOLED, 1280×720-pixel display of the SGS3. The S3-clone is also slightly thicker that the legit one by half a millimeter — a great feat for KIRF.

This Gingerbread-powered HDC Galaxy S3 was posted at Android-Sale.com yesterday but upon checking it today, it’s no longer there. Sammy seems to be quick to respond about this SGS3 knock-off.

Anyway, I wasn’t that disappointed about my visit because I found out that SGS3 was not the only one that has an Asian clone because even its quad-core competitor HTC One X and its big brother Galaxy Note has one. As if that wasn’t enough, they also have HTC Titan clone running on ICS.

Just to set things clear here, we’re not advertising the online retail store or its products. In fact, we hope that this serves as a warning to those of you who are interested in getting one for a cheaper price. There are other legit online shops who offer discounted legit SGS3. But if you don’t mind walking around with an S3 knock-off, here’s the closest thing you can get to the real thing.

Aside from the fake side… Spec wise its already an eye opener for its price, downside is no warranty, if it decides to die on you no service center to go to

I think my S3 is fake, because it lacks a lot of features, it doesn’t have motion settings, no power saving, etc. And the battery dies fast even you don’t use it. It charges the battery for 3-4 hours. Nakuha ko lang yung phone na yun sa raid, kasi NBI yung tito ko. :)

clone na nga, mahal pa. kung gusto nyo na murang clone ng Galaxy SIII, go to Quiapo underpass. They sell the cloned SIII for only 3,000 pesos. They even have the cloned Iphone 4S selling at 3,000 pesos also.

IIRC Kingcom is trying to market a Galaxy Note knockoff for around 8-9thou pesos. Only problem is on the promotional material it didn’t specify how much ram, processor speed and type and the battery rating

I think somehow it’s worth to buy it if you can’t afford to have the real deal. Personally, I’d grab it since I don’t have the budget. Konting tweaks lang, instant ICS na. You can play na Temple Run and other apps.

SRSLY. If you are in the market for a nice-performing Android handset but don’t have the ways and means for an HTC One X or a Samsung Galaxy S3, don’t go with a knock-off.

    Go with a second-hand phone.

A Samsung Galaxy S2 can be had for as little as 15,000 PHP, for one.
    Sony Xperia S, 20,000 tops.
Original Galaxy S, 10,000. And it’s on Android 4.0 (AOSP)!

From someone who bought and owns a Second-hand Samsung Galaxy S2. :D

if anything, they package their clones with two batteries instead of one (at least on the Galaxy Note clone). haha.

Thanks for sharing this. I hope this would really become a trigger for the buyers to think twice or thrice or more, before they settle and buy a product which is being sold in a tempting cheap price. SGS3 comes with great specs and it is not expected to be sold in a creepy low price, IMO.
