Forget the N8: Nokia teases PureView camera phone

Nokia hypes up this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) with a teaser clip of its upcoming camera phone technology called, PureView, also rumored to be called the Nokia N808.

I was wondering when Nokia will release a successor to the N8 – the Symbian phone (sighs) which refuses to die all because of its ridiculously large camera sensor. With PureView, the Finnish company is just really showing off. Check out the teaser below and may I suggest that you play it full screen in 1080p.

Now donâ€™t be disappointed if you canâ€™t find a trace of the camera phone in the snow. The 22-second clip shows three images that boast the camera’s ability to produce â€œPure detailâ€, â€œPure depthâ€ and â€œPure definitionâ€. It then shows a snowy landscape revealing that the previous images are just crop outs of a bigger picture. Now that’s stunning quality!

No specifics yet on how many megapixels this camera phone is carrying under the hood but we can expect it to have at least 12 MP, capable of 1080p HD video recording with video stabilization. For the OS, it’s more likely to run with the latest Symbian Belle.

Excited? Weâ€™ll soon find out on February 27, 2012 at the Nokia MWC press conference.

Megapixels do count…

The level of detail you can capture with the N8 is just amazing. Just great for the intra-operative shots I take. The detail captured becomes valuable in shots taken from a distance. Cropped photos still look good.

The flash is just great for those moments that need to be captured in full illumination.

A successor would be more than welcome. I hope it will also come in Windows phone flavor.

Also, do not underestimate 2mp. It is the resolution of an HDTV. My first digicam at 1.6mp produces pictures printable at 3R at most just fine.

Ever heard of “marketing” enteng? Why would TV manufacturers call LED TV a LED TV when in fact it is just a LED-backlit LCD TV and actually not a “LED” TV? Yes “LED TV” is a marketing term.

I used to own a camera with a 6mp sensor it beats the hell out of phones with 8mp+ sensors. At that resolution a print size of 12×18 is still of a really good quality.

As per dj0502. So why would Apple tout iPhone4 as having a really good camera at even at lower resolution? Because even then a 5mp phone is good enough. What if this camera is just an 8mp one with a really well built back-illuminated sensor? I am not saying it won’t have a 12mp sensor. I am just pointing out that more “megapixels” does not always mean better just like how the iPhone 4 turned out to have a really good camera, thus the megapixel myth.

For the megapixels.. It has to end somewhere.. For most use, 8mp is where you want to go to at most.. 2mp to 5mp is a big jump.. However, 8mp to 12mp not so much, lalo na if print mo lang in 3R size or upload sa FB. You wouldn’t feel the difference. What I hope for is a larger sensor.

ayun na naman! papaanong walang kinalaman ang higher MP sa image quality ng isang camera? itataas ba ng manufacturer ang pixel nun kung walang saysay o walang mapapala? isip isip nga ng malalim at maayos.

Tama lang sigurong sabihin ko na “isa sa mga factors” na makakapagbigay ng higher image quality is ang higher MP count? Kasi kung wala din pala, sana nagstick na lang sila sa 1.2 o sa 2MP na cam di ba? Sa tingin nyo?

Lets say yung nokia N8 eh ang naiba lang is yung MP nia, halimbawa yung 12MP nia eh ginawa lang 2MP and “the rest of the specs are the same”, sa tingin nio same ang image quality nun sa 12MP? nagtatanong lang. haha!

typo in Louie Diangson’s bio. writer pa naman siya for an American BPO :) you should only have “high regard” for, no “s”, it’s not plural. :) “Regards” is used in situations where you mean “best regards”. :)

True, higher pixels does not translate to better image quality. But you have to realize that phone manufacturers match their camera pixels to the sensor. most phones out there with 5mp or less cam usually have crappy image qualities (except Iphone4), while most 8mp or higher smartphones takes decent to amazing image quality.

IMHO,wala namang silbi ang megapixel specs sa mga cam phones, as long as maayos ang image sensor, that’s what really counts. But not really though, as if naman gagamitin mo talagang pang picture ang camera ng phones.tss!
