For the past week, everyone’s still wondering which variant of the Galaxy S4 Samsung is going to release in the Philippines. Recent developments indicate that it will actually be both the Snapdragon 600 and the Exynos 5 Octa are headed for the country.

The Samsung Exynos 5 Octa comes with a Quad-core 1.6GHz Cortex-A15 that switches to the low-power quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 for better battery life (it’s not really 8-core but more like a dual 4-core chip). However, this variant does not have LTE but only HSPA+ (alsso referred to as the international version).

To gain LTE support, Samsung had to go for its competitor’s chip — Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 which is a quad-core 1.9GHz beast with Adreno 320 Graphics. The 4G LTE frequencies supported are 700MHz, 800MHz, 1700MHz, 1800MHz, 1900MHz, 2600MHz.

The Exynos chip is the GT-i9500 while the Snapdragon chip is the GT-i9505. The demo unit we will able to play with during the launch in New York was the i9505 (see benchmark here).

It is highly probable we will see carrier support for the LTE version from Smart and Globe.

Hi! Will the Philippines be part of the S4’s April 24 mega 155 country launch? I’ve asked Samsung Philippines this questions a dozen times but they haven’t given me an answer yet.

Also would you suggest purchasing the s4 or would it be better if I go for the Xperia Z since its 11k cheaper, or the SIII since there isn’t a astronomical difference between the SIII and SVI.

Exynos A15 is good i guess altho, Euro and U.S wants the A15 coz its power efficient guessing more power on current Snapdragons 600, although its carrier wants LTE version in US and Euro thats why they heading on Snapdragon.

If the current choices ill prefer the snapdragon since its LTE version. although i was intrigue on the Exynos A15 performs though.

Good to know that both will be released here, if ever I’m to choose I’ll definitely pick the Snapdragon procs coz Exynos has overheating issues like the ones for the S3. Also, Cyanogenmod releases stable builds for the Snapdragons but not for the Exynos.

A NoteII is still a good alternative for the S4. The non-LTE version should be enough, SMART’s 3G speed is really good compared to GLOBE’s.

pero i’m still torn between HTC One, S4 and Xperia Z…hay, kung mayaman lang ako, lahat yang 3 bibilhin ko at magsasalpak ako ng Sun, Globe at Smart sims jan..

pareho lang tayo… hehehe kung mayaman lang din ako. pero ang option ko is xperia ZL at samsung s4 na qualcomm just because of the LTE option na wala sa octa core*which dapat meron!why no put LTE sa octacore =( *. xperia ZL naman kasi same specs lang except for the water proofing ni xperia z

s4 PROS: bigger battery, stunning full HD super Amoled, fun and lifestyle features (MANY TO MENTION ABT THIS but some seems gimmicks but atleast thay make a phone SMARTER), the best outdoor and macro shots basta camera the best not sure for low lights, plastic build is more durable and less prone to scratches and dents than aluminum and better than fragile glass, and cant interfere with the signal, replaceable battery, genius accessories esp SHEealth integration and the the S-Flip Cover, faster updates, benchark master

cons: if ur a type of person inclined with great looks, s4 is not 4 u but

still s4 managed the design well, keeping the same size as s3 but slimmer and lighter even though sporting larger screen and battery, impressive!, the metal-pattern on s4 and the aluminum-like but plastic on the sides provide more premium look, anyway s4 looks more compact than XZ because of the tiny bezel..

anyway for looks>HTC One, next is XZ
speaker>HTC One with its boomsound, XZ has the crappiest speaker, check comparison with Oppo Find 5, XZ is ridiculous

XZ has the worst display, TFT sucks, wash-out and poor viewing angles
Full HD super Amoled and SLCD3> preference, but some says that the superAmoled FHD is the best on the market ryt now..

XZ worst camera in good lighting conditions,
when it comes to low light, HTC One wins.. cant say yet abt S4

UI> XZ has an elegant UI
HTC one cleaner and cool
S4 quite cartoonish (well theyr Korean, LG’s UI is more cartoonish and ugly) but given those features esp Multi-window, perfect smartphone UI.. anyway android apps could fix the cartoonish style

If you want CyanogenMOD on the device i highly suggest the Snapdragon 600 model. Samsung will not release sources for Exynos, its why the galaxy s2 did not have proper support (hardware composer etc)

This is the reason why there will be no CyanogenMod support for the Samsung Galaxy S4: two different configurations. As a developer, I can definitely see that developing a ROM for these two configurations of S4 will be a headache due to the fact that the Snapdragon and Exynos chip are totally different in terms of processor architecture. Fixing bugs on two different hardware configurations can be a pain too.

Let’s start with the simplest form of this: CyanogenMod does not pre-announce support or lack of support for devices. Ever. Even for the Nexus 4, we did not announce support until a nightly build was available. Further, any announcement regarding the ‘dropping’ of device support will be communicated via this Google+ page, Twitter, Facebook, our blog, or a combination of those; it will not be something buried in a forum post.

This morning, a comment from a CM collaborator on XDA was taken to be as an ‘absolute’ in regards to support of the S4. He offered the opinion of four TeamHacksung maintainers, their frustrations and lack of interest in supporting the S4. What’s seemingly lost on those reading this is that his comments as an individual do not speak for CyanogenMod as an organization.

As for the team’s stance on the S4, there isn’t one at this time, and most definitely won’t be one before the device is sold at retail.
