The missing sibling in the HTC One series was launched today, along with the HTC Desire C and the dual-SIM Desire V.

When we talked to the Country Manager earlier and asked the reason why they did not include the One S during the launching of the One X and One V a couple of months ago, he explained that they felt the market might not find a need for the handset in its category at that time.

However, the decision to include the One S with the launch of the Desire series was prompted by the market’s response.

We’ve been using the HTC One S for more than a month now and we can certainly say it’s one of the more capable Android smartphones out there. It’s got the same gorgeous design as the One X and very close in terms of performance (the benchmarks can attest to that) at a slightly lower price.

They also informed us that the version of the One S that will be released in the Philippines will have a Qualcomm SnapDragon S4 1.5GHz instead of the SnapDragon S3 1.7Ghz that was released in Taiwan a few weeks ago. Updated: There was confusion in the PR and we’ve verified it’s running SnapDragon S3 1.7GHz. You can read our addendum here.

Decided to email HTC Philippines last night through the HTC website to get a direct answer and here’s their reply:

Weâ€™ve read that youâ€™re asking about the exact specification of HTC One S. No need to worry, we are more than happy to assist you with your concern.

Regarding the concern, we do understand that youâ€™ve been expecting for a Snap dragon â€œ4â€ for HTC One S. However, due to the stock shortage of S4 processors all over the world, HTC implemented an enhanced version for the phone. For this, HTC released Snap dragon 3 running at 1.7GHz for all over the world expect North America that has Snap dragon 4 running at 1.5GHz.

Should you need further assistance,…etc.

To bad. Might as well by sony xperia s with better pixel density and larger internal storage. and the ics update on the sxs is almost pure ics experience

I hope this will be clarified with HTC. Parang bumili ka lang ng HTC Sensation ulet kung S3 pa din ang gamit. na overclocked lang then nadagdagan lang ng internal memory. Sayang…

@AllForOneS: Sorry 1.7 ghz, typo lang kasi medyo antok na hehe. Anyway, may nabasa din ako na S3 talaga ang ilalabas dito sa pinas. what a let down talaga

yeah disappointing nga. impressive ung benchmarks results nung S4 e. the One X released in the US even had that same processor at mas ok daw performance bettery wise kaysa sa tegra 3 variant. the lower price and at par performance with the One X is a big selling point.

Made inquiry on Memo Express SM Megamall and HTC Store in Glorietta, personnel from both store is saying that One S is equip with 1,ghz (S3). I also check on the available internal storage and demo phone both have 9.+ worth of gb. seems pretty low to me and 400mb of ram is already eaten by the system

1Ghz? Weird, ang alam ko na S3 variant ng One S is at 1.7Ghz. Ang alam kong naka 1Ghz na Snapdragon is yung One V.

Can anyone confirm it comes with the S4 chip? Just came from HTC’s store in SM Cyberzone and their staff told me it comes with the 1.7Ghz processor which is the S3. Boo! This could have been my new phone if it only came with the S4.

dahil siguro sa design at build quality nya. and i think may kasamang beats earphones yan (not sure). and even though dual-core lang cya, at par pa rin performance nya sa OneX kasi mas mababa resolution nya.
