Huawei Ascend P1 officially lands, P1 and D1 LTE in tow

Four months after we gave you guys a sneak preview of the Ascend P1, Huawei Philippines has finally announced the arrival of their dual-core, SGS2-looking handset. With this late announcement, we can’t help but wonder if this is a case of “too little, too late” for the promising Ascend P1.

As mentioned during our first impression of the phone, this device holds the title as one of the thinnest smartphones in the market at 7.7mm. The 4.3-inch smartphone is packed with a 1.5GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4460 processor with a gigabyte of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. If you need more storage space, you can expand the measly ROM up to 32GB though Micro-SD card.

Huawei Ascend P1 specs:
4.3-inch AMOLED qHD display @256ppi
TI OMAP 4460 Cortex-A9 1.5GHz dual-core
PowerVR SGX540 graphics
1GB RAM
4GB ROM
up to 32GB via microSD
HSPA 14.4Mbps
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA
Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, HS
GPS with aGPS support
Dolby Mobile 3.0+
FM radio tuner
8MP autofocus rear camera with dual LED light
1080p video recording @ 30fps
1.3MP front-facing camera
Android ICS
Li-Ion 1670mAh battery
Dimensions: 127.4 x 64.8 x 7.7mm
Weight: 110 grams

The Huawei Ascend P1 will be available in stores starting next week and can be had for PhP19,890. It’s a pretty steep price for a mid-range phone if you ask me, so I’m not really sure how this will fare against the other smartphones in the same price range.

In addition to the launch of the Ascend P1, the folks from Huawei also mentioned that the LTE version of this device, as well as its slightly bigger counterpart – Ascend D1 LTE – will be available in the coming months through partner telcos. However, they didn’t mention if these two LTE smartphones can be purchased without a contract.

Ascend D1 specs:

Definitely a case of too little too late.

The Razr is a much better option and the Xperia P too. Both of which are cheaper than the P1.

The D1 however might be a good contender against Xperia S for the same spec-sheet. let’s just see if Huawei Philippines price this phone more competitively.

mid-range phone? this sounds a high-end phone for me except that it isn’t in quad-core processor. but yeah, it’s a bit pricey for a Huawei phone.
