Lenovo LePhone: SnapDragon and Skylight OS

Lenovo is going to release their very own phone to the Chinese market this May 2010. They named it the Lenovo LePhone and it comes with a SnapDragon processor running a Skylight OS.

Not really sure why Lenovo would limit the release to China but aside from being a WCDMA smartphone, I guess they’re just testing the market. The Skylight OS used here is a customized Android OS for the LePhone.

Some of the feature details include a 3.7-inch touchscreen display (@ 480×800 pixels), Snapdragon 1.0GHz CPU, 3MP camera, WiFi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth and A-GPS.

If you look at one of the rendered photos above, you’ll see that the screen is detachable from the qwerty housing (similar to what they did with the IdeaPad U1). As such, the LePhone has a secondary battery (one below the qwerty and the other at the back of the display screen).

I like the design but I’m not sure about the ergonomics of the keyboard. I also hope the screen doesn’t detach easily from the keyboard.

wow! except for the funky keyboard design, I find it pretty good. I like the detachable concept going to phones as well.

That keyboard looks troublesome, if not confusing. Nice specs though.

Detachable keyboard on a phone could be an overkill. But who knows, it might work. So test it on the Chinese market first.
