MeiZu MX lands for only Php13,800

Announced back in April, the MeiZu MX attracted some attention by being one of the most affordable quad-core Android ICS smartphone with an estimated price of around Php17k. Though we did not think it will be officially released in the Philippines, that doesn’t account for online retailer shipping them straight from HK.

MeiZu MX

The Meizu MX looks unassuming although there’s some striking similarities with the iPhone when you see it for the first time. The 4-inch screen might not b as huge as the other quad-core phones around that goes between 4.5 to 5.5 inches.

The screen resolution is 960×640 pixels (same as the iPhone 4S) which gives it a pixel density of 292ppi. The MX also uses an ASV (Advanced Super View) in their LCD (developed by Sharp) to provide better viewing angles.

The back side of the handset has a translucent polycarbonate cover which is removable to expose the SIM card and battery.

The unit has a bit of a heft, just a little heavier than the iPhone 4S. The build quality is really good and the construction material for the body has that premium appeal.

MeiZu skipped on the mciroSD card since they’re already offering a 32GB and 64GB model in the line-up.

We tested the unit on Antutu Benchmark and got a whooping score of 15,089 and 5,080 points on Quadrant Standard while NenaMark score puts it at 54.4fps. These are really pretty solid numbers.

MeiZu MX specs:
4.0″ display @ 960×640 pixels, 292ppi
Samsung Exynos MX5Q 1.4GHz quad-core
Mali-400 MP
1GB RAM
32GB internal storage
HSPA+ 21Mbps
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 2.1
GPS w/ aGPS support
8MP f/2.2 rear camera
1080p video recording
VGA front-facing camera
FM Radio Tuner
Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0
Li-Ion battery 1700mAh
139 grams (weight)
121.3 x 63.3 x 10.3mm (dimensions)

If there’s anything we think that might disappoint with the Meizu MX, it would be the paltry 1700mAh battery. Check back with us for the full review in the coming weeks.

You can get the unit for only Php13,800 over a Widget City (see listing here).

Sounds scam-ish, with a price ‘almost’ too good to be true for a quad exynos. Yugatech says QUAD core, the link @ widgetcity (above) says QUAD core. When you try to purchase via ‘checkout with multiply’, it brings you to the widgetcity multiply page where the specs are now only DUAL Core (http://widgetcity.multiply.com/products/listing/11144/Meizu-MX). Either someone in marketing dropped the ball or it’s a bait and switch scam.

Replying just FYI because I looked it up too: there’s a 2-core and 4-core version of Meizu MX. Here’s a review of the latter: http://www.gsmarena.com/meizu_mx_4_core-review-787.php

So just be careful when you buy ;) Nice catch, eagle-eyed.

CM can stick to their Tianyu K-Touch stuff. I’m sure maraming flagship sila na ICS phones.

Dat Oppo needs a Philippine Map at the back.

CM’s rebranded OPPO Find 5 will grind this to the dust…bin.

MyPhone should have rights from Meizu to Rebrand this phone. A888, here we go! That would becool seeing the Philippine flag behind that shiny back cover.

anong rebrand ka mo, lols, meizu malaking kompanya na yan parang mga lenovo at alcatel.

    • Avatar for Ex-Alodian Knight Ex-Alodian Knight says:

Hmmm… kung malaking kumpanya nga yang meizu na yan, edi dapat worldwide na sila…but no.

Why china-only sila? Yan ang tanong, kaya pwedeng i-justify muna ang rebranding bago maintroduce ang Meizu fully sa market.

A part of me hates finding new phones because I don’t want to regret my phone purchase. But at the same time, I like being informed. Haha thank you!

It might be a bit late in its arrival, but specs looks good. The battery may be a bit questionable, but hey, it isn’t AMOLED and the screen is a bit smaller. It’s a great alternative and compromise between price and performance.

UI: Cool! Fusion between iOS and Android!
    Design: Great and solid built!
Camera: 8 MP with BSI lens just like iPhone!
    Processor: Exynos Quad-core!
Baterry and Memory: 1700 mah battery and 32GB. Yan lang ang ayaw ko pero lahat… SUPER LIKE! xoxo :)

the battery should be more than enough for a day’s use. the one x only has a 1800mah battery itself, only 100mah higher than this, and it has an HD 4.7″ IPS screen in addition to its quadcore tegra 3 SoC, not to mention the battery hog SenseUI.

Nice phone but battery is important too.

For me, the downside of this device is not the battery, but the design and the ui. Maybe I didn’t like any of the iphones out there so that’s why I don’t like the design :)

but overall, having the 1.4ghz exynos, this device is a great cheap android phone :)

I hope this phone will have a jb update :)

para sa kin mas ok na walang removable microsd card. 32GB/64GB naman ang meron itong phone na ‘to. nakaexperience na kase ako na nacocorrupt ang file/s ko sa microsd card pag tinatanggal-balik. besides, i don’t think very usable ung magtatanggal ka ng microsd card tapos papalitan mo ng ibang microsd card. sa experiences ko sa iba’t ibang phones once in a blue moon ko lang gawin yung ganun. at kelangan magandang klaseng microsd card talaga ang bilhin mo kase kung hindi pangit ang speed read/write ng files ang mararanasan mo… just my 2 cents.
