Nokia Lumia 920: Unboxing in Parts

We received a packaged the other day. It was a large, silver box made of aluminum. The outer cover has an engraving that says “Nokia Lumia 920” which obviously got us excited. See the unboxing below.

Look at that shiny metal box of the Lumia 920 (great packaging if I might add).

So I went ahead and prepared the unboxing table. For good measure I also set the tripod for a video unboxing. Then, a quick peek at the silver box showed me this — it’s like a Lumia 920 shipped in pieces? Should I assemble the unit from parts or what?

Yeah, I know. Bummer.

Turns out Nokia actually sent out boxes of these worldwide to folks. It’s supposed to show you the important parts of the Nokia Lumia 920. The package included a sheet of Gorilla Glass, a large lens, the camera module, and the polycarbonate body.

Here’s the whole set of parts we got:

All I need now is the motherboard and the digitizer and I’m all set to build my own Lumia 920 by hand.

Given the fiasco that Nokia got itself into with those videos and pictures, how can we be sure that the production-line Lumia 920 will indeed contain those parts. Nokia might just commit a switcheroo again… :-)

That stupid mistake was made by their marketing team. I am pretty sure Nokia’s hardware and manufacturing departments are more honest than that.

Think again. These types of tactics are also conjured up by marketing departments and not manufacturing.

Will Lumia 920 finally be the phone that will usher Nokia’s domination back in the mobile phone scene? I’m sure naman malaki dati ang market ng Nokia sa PH. Almost everyone had a Nokia phone noon. Medyo na-ungusan lang sila ng Samsung at Apple in today’s smartphone era pero it seems like Lumia 920 will be the gamechanger now.

  8. Gerard says:

Nice to see Nokia getting a bit of buzz. For the same price point, their hardware, and most notably the camera technology always had the upperhand. If only they would wake up to their senses, and dip their feet into android…

It looks a bit like an Xperia Go

Sana hindi siya masyadong MAHAL pra matry ko naman ang windows phone. In my opinion pricing will save nokia. Kailangan nila magpasikat ngayong hindi masyadong trending ang iphone…

I’m considering this smartphone, yet some of my concerns are:

    1. Lack of apps in Windows
    2. Is it too thick and heavy?
    3. Is it upgradable to the next WP update?

Nonetheless, I’m excited about this phone. Nokia has done a very good job! Kudos to them :)

    • Water says:

      1. Quality > Quantity. Meron nang 100,000 apps sa Windows Phone. And also, dadami pa yan. More and more developers are becoming interested in developing for Windows Phone 8 / Windows 8 because of the ecosystem (shared Kernel between the two).

      2. Eto din ang main concern ko, mukhang mabigat yung 920. Pero let’s see pag meron na sa market.

      3. Most likely yes. Windows Phone 8 is developed very differently from Windows Phone 7 (different Kernel), that’s why WP7 cannot be upgraded to Windows Phone 8. Windows Phone 8 was designed to synergize with the Windows 8 OS. Thinking about this, looks like this is the goal of MS for the long run. Unless they change the code design of Windows 9 or something, I think it is safe to say that they are quite happy with where Windows Phone 8 is now.
