So it’s confirmed — Nokia has partnered with Microsoft to offer Windows Phone platform on Nokia hardware. See full details of the press release below.
We covered the possibility that Nokia might embraced a new platform and the bet was between Google’s Android OS and Microsoft’s Windows Phone OS. Looks like Microsoft won the bid.
Strangely enough, the market didn’t take the partnership well — Nokia’s shares dipped past 13% after the announcement.
yes finally!! goodbye apple!
It’s a bad move, checkmate..
@Jam
because they havent tried it yet lol.
if your read articles on engadget mababasa nyo duon kung bakit hindi android os yung kinuha nila
Why do people diss WP7?. WP7 is great. The OS is just too young.
why would nokia choose android if this is already being used and abused by most of their competitors. microsoft may have been a logical choice. to become extra-ordinary, you must not do what the ordinary people are doing.
sana for mid-range phones, android gamitin nila, since free yung OS so magiging cheaper yung phone….imagine a slimmer N95(including its sliding numeric keypad and the great camera) with android…a proven great hardware plus an OS with lots of available free apps/games….just my two-cent worth….
perhaps nokia doesn’t want the android market competing with it’s ovi? maybe that’s one of the reasons they went WP7 rather than the andriod OS. what do u think sir abe?
Also I wouldn’t be so quick to count Nokia out of the game just because they went with Microsoft instead of Google.
By sheer volume they still ship out the most smartphones in the world. They are also very entrenched in Europe and Asia (and obviously here). They have economies of scale and marketing to get back to relevancy.
What’s more, Nokia plans all their smartphones shift from Symbian to Windows Phone 7 in the next two years.

Yes, no more room for Symbian. But with Nokia being exclusively WP7, it strikes a similar note to how Apple is exclusively iOS. We shall see if the integrated hardware-software approach Apple does also works for Nokia. :)

Those are some freakin’ sexy phones.
If Nokia will go the Android way, the competition is way denser, and they will end up just being “one of those Manufacturers” and might end up dealing hard with the infamous fragmentation.
Going Windows is really a big risk anyway. If MS would let Nokia put some customization with the UI, it will be better. It’s really an unpredictable decision, but who knows, Nokia has a very huge fanbase.
I’m still banking on Meego more though. It can directly compete with Android, not this Windows crap.
if anything, this deal benefits microsoft more than nokia. ms can thank that pimp elop.
Even if they release a Meego phone I still won’t buy one because that means using MS services (web and desktop) and I hate anything MS.
What I’m really saying is, goodbye Nokia.
W-O-W!
this is of a personal note and preference of course, Windows Mobile Sucks. the UI is so simple and boring. although the Windows Mobile 7 kinda put a little customization but still it’s not that satisfying. I usually borrow a friend’s phone which uses an Android OS simply because it’s amazing and pretty.
well it still boils down to personal choices. Will it affect Nokia’s shares in the market? for sure, some may prefer it, but of course there are some especially those hardcore symbian fanatics who will be disappointed.
let’s see what’s going to happen. excited much!
Ive tried android and i was not satisfied. Haven’t tried windows yet, so im curious able how the phone are going to turn out
Yup, bad choice. Android is the more popular OS nowadays.
Bad choice, Nokia! Bad choice..
i completely agree.
Surely, Microsoft would benefit more from this alliance.
its no surprise since their current ceo used to work for MS. i think most people, including me, who have patronized nokia products for many years were hoping that they embraced Android instead.
i guess this is the end for good ‘ol mighty Nokia.
