Nokia X5: The Qwerty Slider Phone

With a bit of an odd form factor, the Nokia X5 is like a cross between the Nokia X3 and the E72 with a slide out full qwerty keyboard at the bottom.

The form factor is new to Nokia and they said it appeals more to females because it resembles the “compact make-up kit” or something.

Nokia X5
2.36-inch screen @ 320×240 pixels
200MB internal memory
up to 32GB via microSD
3G/HSDPA
WiFi 802.11 b/g
Bluetooth 2.1 w/ A2DP
5MP autofocus camera with LED flash
Symbian OS 9.3, Series 60 v3.2 UI
FM tuner w/ RDS

The X5 also has an accelerometer for auto-rotate but does not have GPS built-in.

Comes in Pink, Blue, Black, Yellow Green and Purple.

Here’s how the UI looks like — puts up Facebook and Twitter in the homescreen:

The recommended retail price (RRP) is 165 euros or about Php9,500.

I have to agree that the Moto Flipout might be the best one in this category.. If nokia managed to make it thinner and screen larger 320×320 (with touchscreen), then it might be a winner. I could’ve gotten one

the screen looks cramp at masyadong maliit… pero maganda ang specs nya… looks like a “game and watch”.

when is Nokia C3 coming to the Philippines?? Indonesia just went crazy with it, forming long queues in Nokia stores just to get one. Nokia should put the Philippines in their priority least, kse 6 out of 10 filipinos daw trust Nokia.

    God that bezel is ugly.

I’m as girly as any girl can get. i’m not crazy about it. It’s too square! Prefer the 6700 slide form factor and color wise. The colors on these seem dull.

Alcatel first used the squarish foem factor on their mobile and made mainstream by Motorola with their Andoid-powered FlipOut

Doesn’t look good and modern. Looks like something from the 90’s. The keys are too small, so its practically not for people with big thumbs / fingers.

Screen is too small too! Yikes. Looks like a retro gadget. Lol

What comes in pink, blue, black, yellow green and purple? The phone itself or the keychain attached on the phone?

Its really like a make-up kit. Even the interface is compacted. hmm… bette ask my sister if this appeals to her taste.

  18. Avatar for Pedro Pedro says:

cute but it looks more of a Cherry Mobile than a Nokia… definitely for the women…

  19. Avatar for mcast mcast says:

the edge of the top part is way too close to the top row of keys on the bottom part… doesn’t look like the most comfortable qwerty keypad, for sure.

another competitor to the microsoft kin and motorola flipout. of the three, the flipout seems to be the best choice, design-wise.
