Rumors circulating around is that a sequel to the Korean smartphone giant’s lovely phablet, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, is bound for unveiling this coming August at IFA 2012 in Berlin.

The revamped version of the phablet will be running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box and is said to feature a slightly bigger display — 5.5 inches to be exact, a 12-megapixel camera and most notably, the blazing fast quad-core Exynos 4212 SoC (System-on-a-chip) that Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S3 smartphone is currently bearing. There are also some speculations that the Note 2 will possess Sammy’s ‘YOUM’ panel, sounds weird but it’s basically just a branding for their upcoming flexible and ‘unbreakable’ AMOLED displays that’s set for debut on many of their mobile devices in the near future.

So why flexible? Well, one of the biggest culprits behind the cracking of a phone’s LCD/AMOLED panel is the substrate. Substrates are two sheets of very thin, polarized glass that sandwiches the electrodes and liquid crystals in an LCD display or an electroluminescent layer in an AMOLED panel. Currently, glass is the main material used for producing display panel substrates which explains why current LCD and AMOLED displays are very easy to break.

So the Galaxy Note 2 will be more durable than most phones? Probably display-wise. Thing is, these are just rumors so we can’t be so sure.

As for the rumored changes done on the Note 2’s body/chassis, it is said to possess a ‘narrower’ waistline according to ChristianPost which I highly doubt. Although, it may indeed improve the phone’s ergonomics since the Galaxy Note is a bit hard to hold with just one hand, I can’t stop wondering how a slimmer galaxy note with a larger screen will look like.

Either way, we’re just a couple of weeks away from August so it’s not gonna be such a long wait for the IFA event. I for one, am not excited about the Galaxy Note 2 co’z I just bought mine three months ago. Go figure.

Just sold mine for a 4S. I used to have an S2 which was way smoother. I had expected the Note would be at least just as smooth or even more.Maybe the large 800p screen is the culprit. So a quad-core is in order! I might get this still though. Only now am I discovering that all the hype reviews regarding 4S’s camera are practically wrong! Because the Note shoots the better now! More details,finer and less noise.

Go Samsung. Show the rest that you are not afraid to do what others cannot or do not want to share to the public just yet. I’m a note(white) owner since december, when the note came out with the white officially in samsung stores and i might just end up giving it to my nephew if i find this new one worth it. I hope a white variant is made available along with the black at launch.

This is getting out of hand. 5.5 inch? really? Just because the HTC OneX and SGS3 were big hits and they both have relatively big screens, 4.7″ -4.8″ respectively, doesn’t mean bigger is always better. And PLEASE drop the stylus already, the stylus used to be a very good solution to the problem that it used-to-be difficult to pinpoint accurately on a small screen with big fingers. But with amount screen-real-estate on our devices today, it is hardly necessary. There IS a reason why almost ALL devices today don’t rely on a stylus. I am hoping that this is only a rumor and not a leak of something that will actually be in the market.

Sir, in what industry are you with? for us architects,engineers,designers its very handy we capture the image of cabinets,walls,windows and Doors, we put dimensions on pictures then send it right away an easy collaboration, imagine it using our fingers drawing stuff. i want to have S3 but i cant give up the stylus because i use it a lot especially doing sketch right beside the captured images.. and yes 5.5″ the better more space to work on. IMAGINE AUTOCAD with fingers yes very very fun!

Sir, there are architects, engineers, designers that actually use the stylus for their designs, i even use it to capture the actual image and draw some dimensions on it and send it right away no need to open PC for that, in case you don’t own the note bigger is always better for drawing especially when using Autodesk cad. so i think sir the stylus targets different market than you.

It’s called an S-Pen for a reason. Not the usual stylus. Anyway, the screen is for better viewing. Just because their screens are bigger, doesn’t mean they are a waste. 2-3 years ago, 3.5″ were the norm, now, we are adapting. You don’t wanna watch a full movie on your 3.5″ screen, would you? or play HD games? just my opinion.

The Galaxy Note created a niche in the smartphone world that no one knew existed. Its not for everyone, that’s one of the reason why the phablet Dell Streak failed. But the recent 7 million units sold since October 2011 make it seem that the Note II will be a bestseller as well.

Like others have said, the s-pen is for precision. Note taking, wireframing, auto-cad & sketchbook by AutoDesk are fantastic with the Galaxy Note. It’s also just plain fun to use. I laugh at the people who buy stylus’ for their iphones so they can doodle on their tiny little screens without pressure sensitivity.
