Looks like Samsung’s cheapest Android smartphone, the Galaxy 5 i5500, is already selling in stores ahead of official launch.
One of the local stores (CMK Cellphones) sent us this unboxed photo of the Galaxy 5 and tells us they’re selling them at Php11,400 a pop.

Samsung i5500 Galaxy 5 (Corby Smartphone)
2.8″ display @ 240×320 pixels
170MB internal memory
up to 16GB via microSD (1GB included)
3G/HSDPA 7.2Mbps
WiFi 802.11 b/g w/ DLNA
Bluetooth 2.1 w/ A2DP
2MP camera
600MHz processor
FM tuner w/ RDS
GPS w/ aGPS support
Android OS v2.1 (Eclair)
Li-Ion 1200mAH battery
The specs of the Galaxy 5 i5500 looks like it’s gonna be a hot among first-time Android user and could get the same warm reception when the Samsung Spica i5700 was first introduced.

thanks for the info guys.
another question i want to ask is i heard that andriods like to connect to the net automatically. is that true? if it is, is there an application to prevent this? specialy if you are on a budget. di ba malaki mababawas sa load mo.
ung application na you will be the one to control when you want to connect to the net.
i really want an andriod phone, that’s why i’m asking these questions.
thanks again.
@allan: you can install an app like quick settings (http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.bwx.bequick) that allows you to turn your apn on/off. i use this all the time since i mostly browse thru wifi. you can also use the built-in power control widget to quickly toggle auto-sync for gmail, twitter, or facebook. most apps can be configured to manually retrieve data as needed. control is really not an issue
Wow! murang android.. ok to ah.. too bad i already bought Wildfire for my wife
let’s just hope this gets updated to froyo (android2.2) so there will be not much issue for the low RAM. Fyi, froyo will allow saving apps to sdcard without rooting your phone.
Somebody mentioned about LG GT540. I wouldn’t really recommend it due to its resistive touch screen. The qwerty keyboard with it is virtually useless.. kung anu ano napipindot, malayong malayo sa capacitive touchscreen ang performance. I had a chance to try it in an LG store.
Tpus yung xperia x10 mini, ang cute! Ok sana para sa wife ko,but what kept me from choosing it over Wildfire is Os. Android 1.6 pa ang xperia mini. For better compatibility baga..
san po pwedeng bumili ng galaxy 3 sa metro manila? i’m long been looking for this phone pero wla pa rin..
i’m torn between two phones.
HTC Wildfire or Galaxy 5.
Which do you think is better? and why? Thanks!
