Samsung to release Galaxy S4 Google Edition

Listen to article

Samsung is reported to be prepping up a Galaxy S4 Google Edition, running a stock version of Android instead of the TouchWiz UI.

According to Geek.com’s sources, the Samsung Galaxy S4 GE (Google Edition) will sport the same looks and internal hardware as the original flagship. Only this time it will be TouchWiz-free and will run on stock Android Jellybean. Although backed by Google, it is not to be confused with its Nexus line of smartphones.

A stock Android running inside a Galaxy S4 may not appeal to some but it could offer some advantages. First would be the immediate OS updates as soon as a new version of Android is released. Second is a bigger internal storage by dropping gimmicky features and bloatware.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition is reported to be unveiled at the Google I/O later tonight and is expected to be available in the US starting June.

Super-like. Vanilla android is definitely smoother than touchwiz. Couldnt care less about touchwiz features after all.

If you have the Qualcomm variant you dont have to worry. I’m pretty sure you can port it to your S4.

pretty sure you can get a custom rom on your current gs4, and put vanilla android on it. the ge edition is the same with the original one
