Sony launches Xperia Ion at Php29,990

Sony Philippines today launched two new handsets today — the Xperia Ion and the Xperia Neo L. Of the two, the Sony Xperia Ion is the flagship handset and will retail for Php29,990 when it hits retail stores next week.

According to one Sony Mobile Marketing Manager we talked to, the Xperia Ion that will be released in the Philippine is LTE-capable. However, it supports the 700MHz and 1700MHz frequency while the expected band that will be rolled out by Smart LTE is said to be in the 2100MHz range.

Nevertheless, if you bring this handset in the US, it should be able to run on AT&T’s LTE network (which runs on 700MHz and 2100MHz).

Sony Xperia Ion LTE LT28h specs:
4.6″ HD Reality Display @ 720×1280 pixels, 323ppi
Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine
Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon S3 1.5GHz dual-core
Adreno 220 graphics
1GB RAM

    LT28i po yung LTE enabled
    LT28h ay HSPA+ lang.

In the review article we linked to, the reference was LT28i which is LTE-capable. The unit demoed to us today which has ICS installed is the LT28h which is HSPA+. However, the Marketing Manager we talked to told us they will release the LTE-capable model as well.

  6. Avatar for Guest Guest says:

Ano ba talaga? LT28h nakalagay tapos LTE capable?
LT28h model ay HSPA+ version, no LTE!

The fact na Dual core lang siya? – Take note po natin na kht dual core siya eh eh it’s still under the hood of Snapdragon S3 version which is quite promising compared to other chip manufacturing, compared sa ibang company “SONY” is still the one which gives effort to give the latest OS for their phones not just Yelling to the public na “they will update the device in later months, na sa bandang huli eh babawiin lang pala, kesyo ganito, kesyo ganyan,” – i’ve not an Sony Avid follower but based on my experience in their device like (x10i from donut to Gingerbread and Arc S from gingerbread to ICS” they also the one na nag-gigive up ng mga nilagay nila na bloatware in exchange for the new os that their promise.

Sony, Sony, Sony.. A dual-core phone with Adreno 220 for 30,000 bucks? At that price we can already buy a quad-core phone. What a failure.

    • Avatar for La+ La+ says:

It’s almost 30,000 PESOS, not bucks. Bucks is a layman’s term for the US dollar currency.

Sir Yuga, did Sony mention the SRP of Xperia Neo L? I guess this cannot be pricier than Xperia U since it’s a step-down in terms of hardware despite its ICS flavor.

  11. Avatar for Dens Leary Dens Leary says:

sayang ganda pa naman ng design ng sony. They always do these kind of things – delayed release and below standard specs for a flagship device (quadcore should be a must these days specially if they will price it like that).
Imagine next week pa ang release and yet hindi pa din ICS, indeed another wrong move from sony, too bad i really like their design.

epic fail na naman ito ng sony. di na natuto. sa ganyang presyo, kukuha nako ng s3 o one x!

It sucks the fact that it has to be a dual-core. -_-
