Specs Comparison: Asus Zenfone 5 vs. Asus Zenfone 2

The impending launch of the new Asus Zenfone 2 is near, and some folks were a bit skeptical about a certain variant it would launch. In this hardware comparison, we’ll put the ever-popular Asus Zenfone 5 against the low-end model of the Asus Zenfone 2, the ZE500CL, sporting almost the same hardware as the former. Which takes the cake for the more capable handset?

Below are some of the advantages of each phone:

Asus Zenfone 5:
* Dual-SIM
* More affordable (apparently)
* Lighter

Asus Zenfone 2 (ZE500CL):
* LTE
* Bigger battery capacity
* Android Lollipop out of the box

The Zenfone 2 has a few advantages over the Zenfone 5 despite the similarities in hardware. It boasts a bigger battery capacity, the presence of Google’s latest Android OS version, and LTE connectivity. Unlike the Zenfone 5, it now touts rear keys a la LG G series.

On the other hand, The Zenfone 5 still has a few edges to boot. It has a Dual-SIM capacity, is lighter partially due to a lesser battery capacity, and might be more affordable than the newer device, as the rumors go around.

With that being said, they share almost the same hardware under the hood besides the ones we’ve mentioned. If that’s the case, you’re basically paying a grand more for a few incremental upgrades. Will you choose the newer Zenfone 2, or is the Zenfone 5 still a viable contender for your purchase? Take your pick! Vote on this poll, and feel free to comment down below.

    @john so bumili ka ng Z5 dahil purpose mo photography? Ineexpect mo bang parang slr Z5 mo? Hahahaha Yan ang problema sa mga tao masyadong inestretch ang expectation sa phones. Bumili ka ng LG.

    the additional price, i think, is good enough considering better battery, LTE connectivity, and Lollipop out of the box.

    I am just curious. I thought the Z5 has Sony lens with BSI compared to the low end variant of Z2. Hopefully, someone can confirm this for me. Which has better camera between the two?

    I am looking forward for the best camera between the two so that I can give it as a gift to my wife.

    Camera kasi ang importante sa kanila.

      dont buy the zenfone 5 if the purpose is for photography. it has like the worst sensor in the world and forget about the advertisement, the camera installed on this smartphone cant even compete with older flagships.Even in daylight, you cant capture well exposed images. most of the time they are underexposed, if not, overexposed. Dynamic range is the worst in here. oversaturated din palagi ang images and the auto white balance does not work accurately. in lowlight, images might looks bright but has full of noise, even when you lower the ISO. if you want a phone with good camera, go for the Lg G2. Mura nalang yan ngayon pero sobrang ganda ng quality, both images and videos.

      asus zen5 and 6 is a good phone, the only worse part is the camera, it cannot compete even with the clarity of my Omega XL, the oxl can have a very nice shot even at night and the sensor us fast, while the asus with regards to camera has one of the slowest i have bought, this is for both asus zen phone 5 and 6,,,so i sold it after 2 weeks

    Asus simply wants to try the upper price point, siyempre for profit.

    Asus zen5 was a runaway product for them, cementing Asus as a brand sa mobile phone, but profit wise manipis ata.

    Kung mag-click at RUMORED price point, then good for Asus, if not, then a price roll back is easy to implement. Win-win for Asus

    Will ASUS Ph release the 4gb Ram version here in the Philippines?

    I made a post somewhere here nagcocompare . We did an actual comparison sa bagong Z2 ng kaibigan ko at Z5 at Z6 ko walang pagkakaiba sa gaming lalo na sa mga resource exhaustive na apps. Theyre good phones and im not letting go of my Z5 and Z6!

    Sobrang weird ng Asus PH. Bakit kaya they have to increase 1,000 pesos to the price of original zenfone 5. Siguro madami pa sigurong stocks ng ZF5, at ayaw nilang babaan ang price nun kasi gusto pa nila kumita. Haaay. Sobrang kunti lang nang nagbago at naupgrade. Tas single sim pa. *SMH*

      It’s to protect the retail stores that already have stocks of the Zenfone 5.

      If they put the price of the 500CL at 6,995, nobody will buy the original Zenfone 5 at 6,995.

      If they force the Zenfone 5 to a lower SRP, like 5,995, the retailers who bought the stocks from the distributor at Php6,500 will lose money.

    • Avatar for ace ace says:

      Aah ganun pala. Thanks. So its more on having a clearance issue, and to protect retail stores. This a little bit sounds unfair in the customer’s side, In my opinion, may mali din dito ang Asus PH, dapat binabaan nila ng maaga ang price ng zenfone 5 para sa mga retail stores para pwede nadin babaan ng retails stores ang prices ng zenfone 5s for the preparation of upcoming zenfone 2 ZE500CL di ba,para mabilis din na maubos ang remaining stocks nila.. Kasi sa sitwasyong ganito, ang customers ang kailangan mag suffer,although for the price sulit nadin naman ang specs niya. Thanks for the clarification tho. (y)

      thank you din sa team niyo sir abe sa pagreveal ng prices. Im looking forward to purchasing the ze551ml 2GB version once released and reviewed by pinoy bloggers.

      siguro after 1 yr pa magbababa ng price yang zf5 pagnalabas na ung 2 zf2.. dapat lang silang magbaba na ng price kse 1yr na yang zf5 tapos meron nang bagong model. para paraan din tong asus na to e.

    • Avatar for Kylemela Kylemela says:

      i have been in the distribution industry for i.t. since 1991, and that is the normal practice, pag bumili kayo ng mahal pa ang price at nag baba ang supplier ng price ay problem na yan ng user at dealer, sa user given na malas at natapat pero sa dealer ay problem na nila yun kasi mabagal sila mag out,,,pero kaya ganito ang schem ng asus ay sure ko sang katerba pa ang nasa dealer at ayaw nilang mag reklamo or lumiit ang sumosuportang dealer sa kanila..
