Vertu releases first ever Android smartphone

After its emancipation from Nokia, Vertu has finally joined the Android bandwagon with the official announcement of their handset named Vertu Ti. And just like their other offerings, this new smartphone will only cater to the elite people who have excessive amount of dough.

Ti is the chemical symbol of the rigid but lightweight element Titanium. It’s no coincidence why Vertu named their handset as such because the phone’ exterior is made of Grade 5 Titanium. In exchange for the industry standard Gorilla Glass protection, the company has coated the Ti’s 3.7-inch WVGA display with a scratchproof Sapphire crystal. And to top it all up, the buttons on the side are made of Ruby.

Other components of the device include a dual-core 1.7GHz Krait processor, 1GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and a pair of snappers; 8MP at the back and 1.3MP front-mounted one. The Vertu Ti runs on skinned version of Android ICS that complements the overall feel of the handset.

But unless you’re a tycoon or a lottery jackpot winner, the Vertu Ti will only remain in your wildest fantasy as the company plans to retail the hand-crafted Android smartphone for USD11,000 (446K in our local currency).

Samsung’s phones are made of plastic, iPhones scratches/shatters easily. HTC/LG/Any other brand ditched the removable battery/External SD… phones are easily broken because these manufacturers won’t invest in higher quality parts.

Titanium cover reinforced with Gorilla glass with moderate to good specs. This should be more durable than the crap Sony Xperia Go. But I doubt this is waterproof. I hope someone makes a drop test in YouTube

This is handmade with premium materials.

Eh kasi naman wala naman tayo sa posisyon to say you wouldn’t want to buy one.
Vertus are actual status symbols (even before) unlike the iPhone (which is owned by a lot of Westerners). Dito lang naman naging ‘status symbol’ kuno ang iPhone. Konti lang sa mundo ang may Vertu (I think the closest store to our country is in SG). And I’d bet you a (very) few Filipinos actually have one. You pay for the materials and the concierge service that comes with it. For the rich, buying one is like purchasing a luxury watch or a piece of expensive jewelry, you know, because their shiny :D… and because they can (and we can’t :P ).
At least now, this one’s actually a smartphone… unlike the previous ones… S40 comes to mind…

I don’t see the point. People who have ungodly amounts of money that want to frivolously throw it away on hideously overpriced, underpowered gadgets already have something to buy – an iPhone.

The latest iPhones are only about 30 to 40K Php, depending on the memory configuration. Comparing it to a phone that costs almost half a million is stupid. You’re just looking to throw a shade at the iOS crowd. Are you feeling inadequate cause you can’t readily afford one?
