Flagship Battle: Xiaomi vs Cherry Mobile, Starmobile, MyPhone

Now that Xiaomi is set to release the Mi 3 to the public starting next week, a lot of people are looking at it as a local smartphone killer thanks to its high-end specs and aggressive price tag. But on paper, does it really have everything to obliterate local competition? Let’s find out by pitting the Mi 3 against local flagships in a spec battle below.

xiaomi mi3

Xiaomi Mi 3 vs Cherry Mobile Omega Infinity

Xiaomi Mi 3 pros:
* Higher pixel density
* NFC
* Android KitKat
* Larger battery
* Lower price tag (Php4,400 less)

Cherry Mobile Omega Infinity pros:
* Larger display
* Larger internal storage
* Larger camera pixel count
* Dual SIM
* Miracast

Xiaomi Mi 3 vs Starmobile Octa

xiaomi vs sm

Xiaomi Mi 3 pros:
* Android KitKat
* Larger battery
* Lower price tag (Php6,391 less)

Starmobile Octa pros:
* Asahi scratch resistant glass
* Larger internal storage
* Larger camera pixel count
* Dual SIM
* Wireless charging

Xiaomi Mi 3 vs MyPhone Infinity

xiaomi vs mp

Xiaomi Mi 3 pros:
* NFC
* Android KitKat
* Larger battery
* Lower price tag (Php2,400 less)

MyPhone Infinity pros:
* Gorilla Glass 2
* Larger camera pixel count
* Dual SIM
* USB OTG

Judging from the pros listed above, the Xiaomi Mi 3 wins across the board for having the lowest price tag, largest battery, and the latest iteration of Android OS. However, it lacks some of the features that some Filipino smartphone consumers need such as Dual-SIM support, larger internal storage due to the absence of a microSD card slot, and a scratch resistant display.

To conclude, if you’re in a budget, the Mi 3 will get you the most bang for the buck. However, if you require the added features mentioned earlier and don’t mind shelling out a few grand more, then the local flagships are still viable options.

    even the Redmi note and not the mi3 will be compare to local flagships phone i think redmi note still superior with this specs 8-Core MTK 6592 1.7GHz processor
    5.5″ HD IPS display
    3,200 mAh lithium-polymer battery
    13MP rear facing camera | 5MP front facing camera and a price of only P6700.00. this must be a game changer.

    Snapdragon 800 paired with Adreno 330, Sony 13mp Camera, 3050mah Battery, Miui V5(Kitkat-based OS) and Full HD Display at this price? Wala nang usapan. Talbog lahat ng Local Brand dito.

    Wala akong pakelam kung China phone man to. Bakit ang ibang Local Brand ba gawang Pinas? Sasakit lang ulo mo sa mga depektibong unit.

    Specs and price-wise. Walang tatalo dito! Kahit anong brand pa yan. Name it!

    Too bad 3000 lang ang available sa PH. Sana initial release lang nila yun. Btw, I’m not interested with this toy.

    The biggest issue for me is the single sim of Mi3. The display of Mi3 i think is gorilla glass already, not sure. But i read somewhere that it is.
    Anyways, a dual sim variant will surely come out.

  11. Avatar for markz markz says:

    I think price drops are already starting after Xiaomi’s price release. From Novo7 tech’s FB update 6 hours ago:

    Zopo ZP980+ “Madness Sale for only 9,999.00 on June 25&26, 2014”.

    “Madness” might mean limited stocks since Xiaomi will only be releasing 3000 units.

    A comparison of pros?
    Better to put a weight on the pros and see which set of pros come out on top.
    This post seems to put pros on equal footing ..
    It gives the impression that the comparison is skewed. Like it tries to ‘lift up’ the local flagships.
    Just my two cents.

    • Avatar for mark mark says:

      it’s difficult to have a weighted comparison of pros of each phone because not everyone would agree that a certain feature is deemed more important than the other. Personally I can live without NFC and Gorilla Glass 2, but others prefer it over having dual sims. I don’t have to agree with what they came up with as a conclusion to the article, but I appreciate their effort in highlighting features unique to each phone presented.

    • Avatar for someone someone says:

      @mark: I agree. And I made a mistake. It should have stated that potential buyers should weigh for themselves.
      I also mislead myself in the last part about ‘lifting up’ because I see the ‘Larger camera pixel count’ pro. I think most of us here know that pixel count is not everything in terms of picture quality considering I read in some comments in other articles (forgot if it was here or in unbox) that local brands extrapolate the pixel count.
