100,000 Mobile Bloggers in the Philippines

Ok, all this discussion about what makes mobile blogging not yet popular in the Philippine landscape may have now been answered.

According to a very reliable source, there used to be more than 100,000 active/registered mobile bloggers in the Philippines and that’s just for Smart alone (both text and photos). Even if we don’t count the ones from Globe, that IS a huge number in my dictionary already.

However, despite the great success in achieving this number in such a short time (talk about a couple of months) this figure was primarily reinforced by the fact that during the trial run, moblogging service was free. Right after the free trial period was over, the total active count dropped to just 10% of the initial users.

So now we can all settle down and agree that “cost” is the primary stumbling-block in mobile blogging. Actually, come to think of it, almost anything you give away for free will eventually be popular. :D

I’d rather do mobileblogging using my laptop.

Yes, I did not misunderstand your comment. I’m referring to Yuga’s article re: active/registered Smart mobile bloggers.

I’m sorry, what I meant to say in my first post is that Smart SUBSCRIBERS are in the position to take advantage of mobile blogging.

Pay per post if you use Smart’s Blogging platform. But if you just use the GPRS then it’s a whole new different story.

I think that mobile blogging service was a VAS service, pay per post.

Not that I fully support their pricing. But …

Smart is in the position to take advantage of mobile blogging due to their current price scheme.
